I had a 1 hour chat with an "adviser" in the afternoon. Today I received a offer of $25,000 as a retention "bonus" if I stayed with Intel 2 years with the offer of weekly career planning support for goal setting action planning with my manager. What is happening here? One minute they are firing people next minute bonus for staying!

Intel is really getting desperate. This is more reactive planning, as if no one is at the helm.
To retain world class people. $25k is an insult but cheap from Intel perspective.

OP here. Look WTF do I care if you believe me or not. You can call the number and they might offer you sh-- but a one way ticket out the door. For me it was clear they want to retain me at a corporate level. FLM are really sh-- though. Personally I can do much better outside.

OP here. They said they will deposit the $25k net in the next pay round after I sign the agreement. If I leave the company within two years I have to pay back the pro rated amount
This whole thing sounds like signing a deal with the devil I'd be wondering if I wouldn't make it on the 2nd year due to ISP so they won't need to pay that 25k

This is interesting and I believe OP. I was given a similar offer a couple of years ago to stay on my team after a redeployment was announced 6 months before it was to take effect. It's nothing really new, just a new application.
So your manager gets to find out that you're unhappy/demotivated from an HR call, and will likely have to take training in dealing with it. I'm sure they'll be happy with you, and will think warmly of you at focal time. On the other hand, the payout will probably trigger automatically if you're laid off. So that's good to have in your back pocket.
$25k is like peanuts. Look at the amount of money Intel is throwing around at people it doesn't want to stay. You should ask for $50k and a pay rise.

That's odd, when I called the warmline, because I had similar career growth concerns, they offered 125k for 3 years signing bonus.. I looked at BK and his gang and had second thoughts.. just not worth it to be handcuffed to the Titanic.
Why is everyone so suprised that Intel tries to retain the people it wants to keep. @cdw I think the answer is your manager didn't think you were a key contributor. I mean what sort of company purges its best people?
OP here. I think the career planning was to address why I'm so demotivated. The idea I think is to keep me engaged. But I have to sign the agreement with the golden handcuffs to start this off.
If this is true..then I am speechless. I was forced ERP. I was in DCG AND a key contributor. I would not have left if the message wasn't crystal clear "Leave or else".

OP here. I'm Indian male so not URM. But this help service had nothing to do with race or diversity etc. I think Intel have fired too many key people and want to now retain some good guys.
