Instead outsourcing and licensing x86 technology in early 80s, and continuously growing licensing base, INTEL even killed all licensees after INTEL introduced 80486??? Siemens was allowed to built in their factories 80286 and 80386, but this program was killed by INTEL in (I believe) Y1989.

Who was/were the idiot/idiots making this very bad/cheap move? It is a bit of history, that 27 years ago some executive management decided to cut all the licensees, and orphaned INTEL, making deep cut and loosing badly embedded space. I remember INTEL 80960 and similar embedded controllers, and they silently disappeared after a while???
