"@cmv - yep. Intel also gets rid of outside people by hiring them for The Next Big Thing. After a couple of years, Intel tires of The Next Big Thing and cancels it. Repeat."

Intel consistently fails at "The Next Big Thing" because the expectations that it sets for "The Next Big Thing" with MCM are based on trying to cater to what MCM wants to hear and not what is realistic based on the insight of the experienced people that it has hired specifically for that job.

The job is done when the VPs and managers who failed at making good on "The Next Big Thing" opportunity declare victory and blame the problems on the newest (and least internally-connected) in the group.

There are VPs and senior fellows at Intel who have made careers of nothing but this - failure after failure somehow rationalized into success. Try talking sense to those people. That they won't listen is an understatement.

If OP is correct - old people at Intel really do s--- and deserve ISP.

When they enter the real job market, well, let's just say making fries at Mcdonalds will be really appealing.

@IYcuOv3-cmv We'll see how the 25million dollar man will do but he got support from above and likely lots of resentment from below.

But I agree, the NIH is rampant, with huge arrogance that the success of the x86 monopoly was really skill, but it was more stupid luck that created most of what Intel is

Then you got CRB, PSO and BK pissing it all away... so sad

Not invented here is ingrained deep in the Intel culture. And so is every man (and woman) for themselves vs. working as a team (i.e. backstabbing and internal competition).

Success in new areas like mobile, IoT, software, solution selling, working with SI's, etc.. requires experience and relationships that aren't common or available at Intel.

So Intel hired a bunch of people with many years of experience and success in these areas. And then existing employees systematically worked to undermine them to management. I spent almost two years being condescended, back-stabbed, lied to, critiqued by morons, stolen from, forced to defend every decision and otherwise wasted.

I was waiting the last couple of months for my options to vest before I left. Then got ISP'd for getting an SL4 for "being new to Intel." Most of the group of senior experienced people hired at the same as me and other I met at NEO have left or been pushed out. Intel lost decades of the critical expertise that it lacks with these departures and is left with people whose primary skill is working and surviving at Intel. And, of course, the VPs and managers who churned through us had no repercussions for this, which will ensure that it happens again and again.

I can honestly say that I was optimistic about joining Intel because I was hired with a group of high quality senior experienced people. I turned down a similar offer from Intel several years ago. I was definitely wrong, though.

If you're senior and experienced from outside, don't come to Intel. Work elsewhere. They need you but they don't want you.

@kig: "layoffs of another 30K in the next two years before he is also gone" this should of happened this year to justify the stock price. IMHO, Intel headcount WW will be 50k by 2020 to justify their lack of earnings with NO GROWTH.

It was all down hill after Grove

You had CRB who wasted billions when he could have planted the seeds of world domination

You had PSO that followed that lost the second change for world domination with his infatuation with x86 and turning down jobs

You have BK who thinks IoT, 5G, memory and modems all commodities can save the company. That and of course foundry will require layoffs of another 30K in the next two years before he is also gone

f- that stuff about making a good impression on your boss. Build your reputation asap with customers and vendors, then pick the best one and abandon Intel before you're tagged as a lifer.

Believe it or not may places still value experience, wisdom and pay a premium for it.

TMG is very happy to hire fresh PhD pay them a low six figure salary and hold them over their green card for a few years. They have to do whatever their boss says and work 7x24.

Old guys who needs them, we like doing stupid things over and over again with virgin PhDs

BK has Intel on a bad path. What's funny is the board hasn't figured out the obvious. It will come to roost. They just don't read sites like this.
