Thread regarding Sears layoffs

New LP Manager

I accepted the LP Managers position at our local Kmart. I realize this could be a very short employment but I'm hoping to get some needed experience. I was told that my experience maxed the starting pay scale but was only offered $14.50 per hour or $754 per week for a 48 hour work week. I am a Certified Forensic Interviewer and Loss Prevention Qualified so they got me cheap (in my opinion). The store has been without a staffed LP Department for a couple of months and when it was staffed, I was told they just sat in the office. It's ridiculous how long the hiring process takes!

From what I've seen, this store is not a P2P store and a lot of employees are on the floor at all times but from observing the customer flow, it has to be in the red! So this store doom may be further down the line than others....we shall see!

I would appreciate hearing from other LP

@1isl I don't know why the hell we still got an LP in my store. I honestly when I started off we got an ok LP than we got a really good one he would actually catch people. Than we got a chill one the last one was pretty strict, but chill at the same time and last but not least the most current one seems like hes just scared lol. I see the LP just walk around do nothing I also see the other one I guess his side kick just flirting with girls. I feel in my store its just a big waste of money I think if we are still opened one more year LP is getting cut for sure.

I worked with Kmart L.P. for 12 years. LPA (actually back then, it was Loss Control...so LCA) to District investigator. I was there when we chased then off property and I was there when they went no-touch & no off sidewalk stops and every policy change from 1999 through 2011. Good luck brother....you'll need it.

A very astute and accurate observation about the state of Sears operations!

What's going on is it is a big game. The HR dept. brags about how much money they have saved with their cost cutting. The useless DMs brag about how "efficient" their districts are. The accounting dept. uses the loss as a tax write off, and brags about the credits. And the also useless LP (or AP) dept. uses the theft/shrink to try and justify their positions as they never catch any shoplifters or protect any assets. Lost in all this pile of crap is the poor customer who they care nothing about. Just one big giant charade. And every single quarter they losed another 400 million and can't seem to figure out why.

If they are running stores on only 3employees? Does Lampert have a clue what shrink at store levels is?

Theft has got to be through the roof at these stores? What is everyone's feedback?

"I'm curious why it seems that K-Mart still has LP help, but mostly Sears does not. Is that true? If so, why?"

Most Kmarts don't have an LP; Only a few of them do.

Memorize the Unit Adjustment Types on the RMU to help you find the causes of SHRINK.

If you have a Dept 57 (Tobacco & Alcohol) get those locking liquor bottle caps for the high value liquor bottles.

Good advice on the spider wraps just make sure the cashiers have an "alpha" key to remove the spider wraps. The cashiers had no idea how to remove a spider wrap.

If you can get your hands on them here are several LP tools for you:

Alpha Boxes

Locking Pegs

Spider Wraps

EAS tags

Gator tags

Tell me if I forgot anything guys.

Here is an idea, Gator tag the shoes and make sure to EAS tag the box also.

Regarding EAS tags, our store in NY has them on things like $2.79 gel pens in stationery and $3.99 plastic picture frames in home decor. Because everyone goes to Kmart to steal pens and plastic picture frames!! Yet, the only security tags on footwear in our store are on the shoebox. Other stores have all shoes over $9.99 gator clipped into the shoe eyelet or through the elastic on slip-ons. Floor associates know a lot of shoes walk out of the store because we constantly find old worn shoes under the shelves and in the restroom trash cans.

I am "NOT" LP, but I understand how hard your job is from a shrink/theft standpoint and you have to catch them in the act in order to charge them. Kmart used to have a really good LP department until Eddie lambert aquired the company in 2003.

Hopefully your employees are making sure to put the EAS tags on the high shrink stuff. In addition putting the "Gator" tags on the clothing.

We did not have LP at my store also when it closed in 2014.

I understand how hard it is. Good luck with trying to track transactions on the register and in the "605"/receiving area. SHC has some really crappy equipment.

FYI: If your employees are competent enough to handle this. Have them do a cycle count of all of the high skink products in the HBA department.

Just some advice.

It is a little weird how they do things. At our Kmart store, our long time LP left last year and he was making $14.00 and that is with many years with the company. We had a short term LP until Christmas last year, and he wasn't making nearly as much. We haven't had one since then until a month ago. The district LP insisted I hire this guy he sent me and pay him 15.50 and he has no experience !!
