Arm license excitement

Sorry folks. Intel is getting arm license because Apple is forcing Intel to use arm in its modems. Intel can't ever manufacture its own modems without it.

This news is the worst kind of new.

1) It validates that x86 as a driver of technology is over. Even intel the world's largest semiconductor company admits the ARMy has won. Too bad PSO sad no to Apple or Intel would be 75 billion company on the way to a 100 and PSO still CEO. Now we know x86 is dead.. even for servers it will be conquered by the ARMy

2) Intel will be split in two. For foundry and ARMy to be successful at Intel, they must split TMG out. Allow TMG to compete against everyone else and allow x86 to sample the TSMC and Samsung offerings. It could be frightening for TMG to find out that servers or client or chipset might actually prefer someone else, LOL

3) TMG is in for a huge overhaul. They way they do development, technology definition, NPI, yield/cost will all have to change. No longer are they making 150 dollar to 1000 dollar chips but 5-25 dollar chips. Gone are the arguments about Prius, LOL. TMG needs to lose another 10K employees.

If PSO had embraced Apple

If PSO had embraced ARM a few years ago

Now BK did the only thin he could, throw in the towel on x86, cut the product teams loose to consolidate and will also have to cut TMG loose, or risk Foundry failing again... Without cutting TMG loose foundry simply won't have credibility in the open market.

Exciting times on the Titanic as it breaks in two before both half sink, LOL

Funny to see that first 10nm chips comming from Intel's fabs won't be x86 but ARM. Pretty dramatic change that is summarizing all the troubles with x86 relevance these days...

OMG a bit over 200 million x86 will be sold this year and more than a billion ARMy and BK figured out he better join the party on 10nm. By the time the first Intel 10nm rolls off the line another 5 billion will be sold by all the other semiconductor manufacturers, a little to late BK...

Than they turn their Larabee into AI/ machine learning after Nvidia showed them how to do it, late again.

Funny how the once leader is now the slow follower...
