Thread regarding Sears layoffs

September 9th store closings/earnings/ect.

I wonder this time how many store closings/staff cuts they will make. The person who made the comment about 15 employees for a 85k foot store. You cannot run a store on payroll like that. Corporate has lost their mind.

Thank you for getting my scarastic remark. I am glad you guys got my point. Does anyone know if they are looking at 100+ store closures at both banners Sears/Kmart after the earnings are released?

Don't worry, Eddie's got the staffing cuts under control. As a condition of employment, all Sears and Kmart employees will be required to take an injection of a radioactive chemical that will aid in growing two more limbs to do twice the work. The best part is that you can wear these really cool shirts with four arm sleeves!

That is nuts 80 people on the payroll 15-20 per shift to do everything. Including backup registers, and relieving employees for breaks, ect. And truck is supposed to be out in 4hours???, Christmas is coming up and that is the busiest shopping season of the year and all companies are ramping up hiring. Yet SHC is cutting payroll?? HTF? And the stores will have extended hours? What do they expect employees to do grow arms to do 4 things at once?

That s---s, my old store had a dock. On adverage how many people are on total payroll in the store. What I am asking, is actually how many people are on payroll?? Not just the 20 that work that day, but the total number of staff?

First yes i agree. We were with out an LP for months and everything was just flying out of the store. Jewelry was broken into 3 times in the last 12 months. We finally for 1 LP she they were there for 1 month. We had another that would come in around 6pm everyday until closing. They were not just taking clothes there were taking TVs out the door. After inventory last month they decided to have the LP that was coming in at night come in a few days out of the week. I heard that our store was rated a 3 so we didnt need a full time LP.

There are more then 20 on the payroll but never more then 20 working at 1 time. They have already started hiring so there are even more people. There was 1 guy that works shoes who was off the schedule for a month then they had him back for 2 weeks then gone again. Our store doesnt have a pharmacy. On a truck day there can be between 15-20 in the store. 6 of them are the ones unloading the truck and then putting out the merchandise. So those 6 and another 2 that come in after the truck are also the only ones that are working the floor in hardlines. They are putting things out doing carryouts and online orders. Right now we have a hardlines and softlines manager still.

In the evening 5pm to closing there is maybe 2 people on the floor. in hardlines and 3 in soflines that includes jewelry.

The store in Lake Tahoe is really bad. Their store manager left and a large group of his workers walked out with him. They have freight all over the place. They have an off site stockroom plus a small one at the store both were packed as of a week ago. You could not even walk in the back and there were pallets on the sales floor.

Our trucks come and some times we have 3 pallets sometimes we have had 8 or more since they double stack them. I dont know how many stores have an actual loading dock but ours doesnt. We unload everthing onto flatbeds four highs or pallets for the bigger items. Most of softlines is put on 4 highs some on a pallet or 2. Hanging is kept with the hardlines because someone from the truck crew has to hang all of it on Z-racks. It can sometimes stay in the back for weeks.

Just like I said on another thread. Without any LP and no employees on the floor, the store theft for all stores will skyrocket. Does anyone agree with this remark?

Forgot to add this, is the P2P excuse for all remaining Kmart stores to have no freight in the back or for is it for certain stores?

At my old store, Kmart did you use to have pallets for hardliners like, department 4, toys ect. And have all of the soft lines regardless of department on different pallets?

Our building is about 130,000 sqft. We have about the same amount of workers, 15. We never have more then 20 at 1 time. We have 6 people to unload our trucks and that is no matter how big it is. there are usually 2 people in the trucks and the rest on the belt. 1 person that is supposed to help on the truck they are has to do all the handing that come off the truck. After the truck is done those same people take everything to the floor and then work the merchandise in hardlines. They don't want anything taken to the back anymore. They say force it all out. This is all supposed to be done in a 4 hour shift.

One of our leads was just told that they have to take on all he responsibilities of a ASM with no pay increase. So more work longer hours with nothing extra. It makes me wonder if the same thing that was mentioned in another post is true. Are they going to just have a lead in hardlines and softlines and the ASMs will be gone.

In order for either a Sears or Kmart to run properly regardless of store size do stores need a minimum of 50-100 employees on payroll to run it? Or what do you think is the actual number for a store to function? What is everyone thoughts?
