Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Life goes on, and it is good.

I EOI'd last Nov, and just have to say, best thing ever after 35 years in the grind. Hang in there if you want to stay, but try not to stress too much about the leaving whether it is your choice or theirs. Endings can make great beginnings.

I Agree with you!

You with the under 10 years, chill out, if let go, you will have a new beginning! God will provide for you and your family! Hopefully you have faith, if not, I completely understand why you are worried!

@iyr I put in my EOI last year after just 2 years at the company. Yeah, I didn't get the great payouts, or anything else, but U had 10 years in various parts of O&G and I figured I would bounce back. It was scary for 3 months, but I did. It is still not ideal, but I make a decent living. I'm Still in O&G, I make more than I did at ConocoPhillips, I just work out of town, and have to come back every weekend to my family. It s---s, but that's life. I'm always looking to come back home to Houston and put my roots back down in with my family and do everything I can to get back home.

Easy to say after 35 years and a lifetime of income, pension, investments. What about those of us with under 10 years, a young family and a mortgage to worry about? I'd be dancing out the door if I could last 35 years and then get a massive EOI payout as well. Congrats on a healthy and long career, but some of us want to keep working and won't be as fortunate.

Finally, a post worth reading. Not the usual bitter and disparaging remarks. Best of luck to everyone, whether you're still with COP or not.

Good perspective. I didn't EOI, but I got it anyway. I was there for a number of years and I liked my job and I liked what I did. But I have to admit, there are some people there who could ruin a good rock fight. And it is good to be away from them. So yes, life does go on. And it is good.
