If you're in Mark Re's group, your layoffs start at the beginning of October. Get your resumes ready.

Posts are correct. I've also heard the target is 30K total, and layoff actions every quarter. They have their hands full with existing announced actions for a while, so they can't do it all at once. The resulting chaotic situation should keep mgmnt busy and distracted for a while before they can drop the next shoe.

It should start in September butJ no firm dates yet. Apparently this is very annoying for us as we need to plan our future accordingly and not waste anymore time serving a company with such a poor decision making ability. I'm opting out for the fastest way possible.

Seagate didn't realize how fast the market was changing, and didn't take appropriate action to deal with it until recently. Their problem is that they can't close any one plant easily without disrupting future plans. As with recent RIFs, it will be piecemeal until they have consolidated the work at the sites they intend to keep. I'd guess most big site closings are 12 months away. I think the prior comment regarding the eventual headcount being 30-35K are realistic over the next two years.

It will happen in small batches every couple of months at all locations till Seagate reaches a headcount of 30 to 35k. Remember every company is trying to be lean in order to be competitive and it isn't domething unique only to this company.
