Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I noticed something while walking into Sears...

It was the outline of vinyl or acrylic paint lettering that had been removed off of the glass of the front entrance. It used to read "Satisfaction Guaranteed or your money back". Someone intentionally scraped it all off. The old "Sears, Roebuck and Co." lettering still remains on the other side.

Such a small detail but it speaks volumes as to Sears' lack of willingness to foster good, old fashioned, no-nonsense customer service. Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck invented this motto (look at any old Sears catalog) yet they threw it all away.

Gimmicks, gotchas and technicalities replaced common sense.

Hate to say it but the comment about metrics and SYWR/Credit Apps, is so true SHC does not give a Sh--. About customer service just that customers spend money in the run down stores.

Well you don't want any false advertising do you. Satisfied customers are not what we are about. We are about meeting metrics and getting SYW and credit applications. Pay attention. Now get to work

I'm sure some MBA decided Satisfaction Guaranteed (0277 to you old-timers) cost too much money.

I do remember the occasional return that was insanely undeserved (once a guy came in at closing time to return a spray can of paint that had clearly been used and abused, and was several years old, and the manager gave him his $3 back), but it was a pretty rare occurrence and the policy was really something that set Sears apart.

Costco has a similar policy and they are doing pretty well.

So Sear saved a few bucks. Lost a lot more.

Sears, Roebuck and Co. = Satisfaction Guaranteed (Vintage Sears) = RULED

Sears Holdings Corp = Satisfaction Not Guaranteed (Today's Sears) = S---S

They should have scraped it all off. They are not "Sears, Roebuck and Co." or even pretend to be.

Any questions? I rest my case.
