Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Another Family and Friends event coming soon...such a waste of time

These "sales" are a waste of payroll. It's hardly worth shopping since few items are actually on a good sale. The store is dead once it stays open past normal closing hours. There is so much hype for something so insignificant. Advertising is limited to handing out flyers. Whoopdie do.

Oh, anyone notice the $25 off by opening/getting approved for a Sears Mastercard? Sears has never done that, it's always been $15 or $20. Heard that credit metrics slipped downward the past few months across the whole company. Credit is a key moneymaker for Sears. They get about $20 per application from Citibank, whether approved or not.

People aren't signing up and rightfully so, nobody really wants the high-interest card and fewer people have a valid reason for shopping with Sears.

Things must be getting really desperate around here...

Friends & Family events are promoted through email, solo mailers, credit card statements, in addition to the usual in-store flyers, signage and circular ads.

I forgot to add to my original post was this. SHC made an idiotic mistake doing away with the 5% extra point bonus on any transaction at Kmart when you used your SYWR and paid with a Sears Card.

The 5% bonus was the only thing worth having a Sears card for. I racked up my points good.

FYI: Depending on who the liquidator for your store is they may/may not let your customers use your points during the liquidation sale. Ours did not.

I removed the SYWR key cap from the keyboards at Kmart so our idiot cashiers could not use it. SYWR was only worth the E-Receipts for me and the bonus points.

Thanks I forgot about the debit card. Everyone hang on, I have a feeling the South Carolina Sears/Kmart stores will be closed and maybe the whole southeast abandoned first?

I've always wondered if Citibank would ever end their relationship with Sears because of the declining customer base and all. Is it even worth it? don't know how many times I've heard from customers that they were "cutting up their Sears card" for one reason or another (usually because they have been turned off by Sears' lack of customer service but also for the high interest rate and billing errors, etc.).

Obviously, not very many people are opening cards. I know that they pay Sears $20 every time they receive and process a credit app, whether it's approved or not. That's why Sears is so insistent on the credit metrics, it is easy money. In fact, it's the sole reason half the stores are still open--not from sales, but from margins made up from warranties and credit. I've heard this from many upper-level managers.

The majority of people that apply are not approved so I'm thinking that the Sears deal doesn't mean a whole lot to Citibank (I guess perhaps some percentage of those "not approved" are put in to get marketing offers, that has to be the only benefit to Citibank).

To answer your question, you can actually use your debit card now.I guess someone at HQ finally realized that it was better than not getting a sale at all. However, you still cannot use a third-party credit card with an employee discount. They want you to use a Sears card if you use a credit card.

Yep, I agree with you fully. Maybe CitiBank is switching everyone from a regular Sears Card to a Sears MasterCard since they realize the company is going belly up. I had a Sears card and Citi "upgraded" it to a Sears MasterCard. I believe in the next few months the regular Sears card will be dumped and all that will be left is the MasterCard.

PS: I was a former Kmart employee but my store closed. The only reason I have a Sears MasterCard/Sears Card is so I could use it with the employee discount.

Do they still require you to use the Sears Credit card/green dot card/SHC Giftcard/Cash/Check to get your discount? I left in January 2014 when my store closed and wonder if this idiotic policy is still in effect?
