ConocoPhillips is an Independent - efficiency at the "corporate" level is no longer relevant. Every "valuable" resource in Global Wells can be found on call from a consultant or with a service company. Indeed, industry experience is more valuabke than ConocoPhillips experience.

The problem is BU managers are bottom line oriented. Even if a Global Wells person is highly valuable, the BU manager only looks at cost. If the GW person is an older person he will not be re-deployable to another group because of his/her cost. Not very efficient on a corporate basis but that is they way things are done.

... more importantly, how many are in Global Wells? That is where I would cut first - if they are really that valuable a BU will scream to keep them.
