Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Good choice for several, not for a select few

Layoffs are hard, but saw some deserving (for layoff) candidates being impacted. Good move by whoever chose them (harsh, but true).

On the flip side, feel really sorry for those who did not deserve this at all.

However, on positive note, the skilled ones should be able to grab another opportunity pretty quick, and use the compensation money to go on vacation, spend more time with family, .....

99% did not have it coming, but there is the 1% who do. There are still some slackers still here in OKC that probably should have been cut a couple of years ago. Politics involved though on smaller teams..

I was let go y'day ... Over last few years I had 5 & 4 ratings in appraisal along with 3 ....

I was let go not because of my performance but because I was the cheapest one to let go in my team being the one with shortest tenure at Seagate.

It was a good push for me ... Am now happy spending the summer break with the kids ...

SJL & Mosley needs to go to have any future for this company. They made one after another bad decisions....

This is very clear from CEO message that there are many more rounds going to happen in the future. Only God can save Seagate. Bring in young blood, they know how to come up with innovative ideas.

Lot of old guys in company.

Why does an organization need so many VPs? The no is obsence . Boggles the mind

RIFs are never done as top exes continue to make bad decisions and blame it on macroeconomic events. Hence company bottom line is negatively affected and RIFs are used as bandage solution to mask their incompetence and please shareholders. Very sad.

What company message? Another round isn't coming (yet?). Learn to understand 8k filings. Rifs done, they will be paid for by September, no more rifs right now.

Does anyone know if any patent attorneys got RIF? Not sure why They exist as I never got anything accomplished from them. They are an expense to Seagate.

I believe in impartial behaviour if half the VP cohort is cut and 3/4 of the exec+senior directors are cut

I still am shocked and sadden that a colleague of mine in IP legal was impacted by this RIF. She did such a fantastic job at patent landscaping and alerting for us engineer in the past few years. I am sure many of you know her through her excellent work. This is a huge lost to Seagate. Whoever let her go has made a grave mistake.

Jobs are not as plentiful as you all seem to think and use as justification that it's OK to lay people off. Anyone out of school for any length of time may find it difficult to get the offers. Now, the companies are waiting until after elections to decide what to do next. Most companies are slowly shedding employees very quietly. Very few are interested in paying for experience at this time.

I thought my hard work and my attitude were well received by management and coworkers. Being Laid off maybe me question everything.

Agree. Surprising to see so many Directors and managers in the list, so it wasn't biased. Another round coming though as per the corporate message.
