Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Lay off protocol

Seems not many people know about lay off procedure. This procedure is not specific to seagate, but in general. Your manager and two security guards will appear in your cubicle. The behavior of the manager you are going to see today is different, today he act like a butcher, he is very hard in you, is not usual your manager. He will tell you: based on your performance and company needs your position is being eliminated. He will give you some paper work to sign. Then you have to collect your personal belongings in front of him. You are not supposed to touch any computer or any company stuff. Then security will escort you to the gate. You are done. Did you work 12 hours a day? Good for the company!

Everything will be done in 15-20 min. In next 20 min, you will face Your wife and kids

OKC did not have police on site, those are normal security guards with shinny badges polished today. RIF is the only time security gets attention. Shoes were shinned.

To: don't believe everything you read

This person appears to be a manager or some kind of designated assistant. Not surprised at all to hear that. And on the: if they survive comment, unfortunately people like this will always survive. Where would directors be without reports like; junior managers who are willing to lie and butlick. haha

Well, good job there giving props to your director. Sure it's good that people are compassionate, but compassion and happy hour are a joke next to the loss of a job. And BTW, it is likely that your director participated in the RIF selection process. If you are a manager, you would know that his or her hands were not completely tied and I suspect this is the case.

Don't believe everything you read. I know from first-hand experience during last fall's layoff (not me but I was involved.) Our director was extremely compassionate about letting people go. His hands were tied, but still exhibited compassion. Most of the people let go still meet us occasionally for happy hour.

Wow very tough, strict and scared. Asian culture can't understand this. It is very rude.
