We are approximately half way through the site strategy plan since the acquisition of infineon wireless. Clearly it doesn't take a genius with today's announcement to conclude a few points: firstly, the IMC management have absolutely no idea where critical functionality is developed and which teams add value, in addition they don't want to be in Europe long term. With the strategic decision to develop 5G solely in the US; European sites have their days numbered. At a guess this time next year Nuremberg and Duisburg will close. Munich will be kept alive to deliver 7660. Then 4G will enter maintainance phase and be shifted to cheaper geographies namely India and China. IMC will exit Europe in 2018 and move all R&D to San Diego, Santa Clara and Austin. Bangalore and Xi'an will provide low cost outsourcing support.
