I think the lack of serious responses here (and suggestions of ex-Intel retreads) really speaks to the unique challenge of leading Intel into the future.
What is crystal clear is that the BK/Rene James "two-in-a-box" combo was a failure, strategically, operationally and culturally. Intel is in a bad place along all three of these critical dimensions.
As a result, Intel is in a really bad place: an incoherent (and flawed) strategy, delivery and efficiency problems only made worse by the current layoffs and a culture that will actively work against either a leader from outside or a real strategy. Oh, and the Board is a mess too.
Who would sign onto such a seemingly impossible task?

It is a sad state of affairs for Intel. Those that lead the other major chip companies likely would have considered it before it got BK'd but now after it was thoroughly been BK'd for several years decimating the moral, losing many years of possibility strategic new thrusts, and losing the process lead to TSMC / Samsung, who in their right mind would want to lead the organization....
Even some ambitious outsider would take pause, and thus the board will be left with secondary quality outsiders and even more unqualified insiders, a terrible place is intel leadership pipeline.
You got BK BKing the company and really nobody internal or external in any position to be a replacement, so sad how far this company has fallen, LOL
