Remember when Otellini said x86 would win in mobile because of all of the software infrastructure?

They don't even realize they have an existential problem. Clowns in the exec suite think x86 is forever.

Technology was and IS all about disruption, look thru history at it.

In almost every case the disruptor is disrupted by someone else and never seeing or finding the next big thing.

One can argue the reason, but the trend in history is clear.

For those clinging to hope their careers can last more than a couple years I ask you this

1) is intel more DEC, Nokia, Kodak, Blackberry like?

2). Is Intel more IBM / HP like. BTW none of these companies while still here are near there past glory

I say intel more 1) a lucky one trick pony who with so much money and effort has failed to produce one other revenue stream. BTW you think that San Jose State graduated is some trnasformational leader? He is just an FSM slave driver who talks a good talk, but trnasformational brilliance ... No way.

One last thought Intel has lived and grown because of Moores law. All the FSM folks know about 14nm and 10nm. All the design and prodict folks too. Times are not like 8 years ago. Anyone who thinks so deserves to go down with BK

My new computer will be an iPhone 7 and iPad Pro

I'm in need of a new computer. Think I'll get the Samsung Galaxy 7 this time.

Making high performance CPUs isn't any secret anymore. Apples phone chip is almost as good as Core-M.

It's only a matter of time until the ARMies field competitive server CPUs. Watch for Intel's margins to collapse in the next 5 years.

What is this power8/9? Killing INTEL to bones' marrow! ;-)

Google and the other datacenters will eventually make their own chips. It's already happening with Google TPU and Microsoft FPGAs.

Software will eat the world - including Intel

The next decade will be rough times for Intel. The question will be can Intel walk away in 10 years still being a 55B a year corporation? The layoffs will have a negative impact for years to come. But let's look on the bright side, BK ensured he hired men hating women and ensured you can use whatever bathroom you desire to use. The leadership at Intel is still screwed up. It will be shareholders who will end this charade.

What is this power8/9? Who is doing it?

_For starters, POWER8 is currently delivered as a 12-core, 22nm processor. POWER9, expected in 2017, will be delivered as 14nm processor with 24 cores and CAPI and NVlink accelerators. That is sure to deliver more performance with greater energy efficiency. By 2018, the IBM roadmap shows POWER8/9 as a 10nm, maybe even 7nm, processor, based on the existing micro-architecture.

The real POWER future, arriving around 2020, will feature a new micro-architecture, sport new features and functions, and bring new technology. Expect much, if not almost all, of the new functions to come from various OpenPOWER Foundation partners, POWER9, only a year or so out, promises a wealth of improvements in speeds and feeds. Although intended to serve the traditional Power Server market, it also is expanding its analytics capabilities and bringing new deployment models for hyperscale, cloud, and technical computing through scale out deployment. This will include deployment in both clustered or multiple formats. It will feature a shorter pipeline, improved branch execution, and low latency on the die cache as well as PCI gen 4._

Those companies make very big purchasing decisions. They will buy whatever makes sense financially and for the past decade that has been intel. There may be good reasons for them to change, but "just tired" is not one of them.
