chances are, you belong to a group/team that is part of that excess fat that should be trimmed.

Maybe so but the difference with Intel is that it's sole near-monopoly market is being taken. IBM still has multiple streams of income and is fairly well diversified. Intel has a going concern problem.

I've worked for both. Got out ahead of the layoff curve with IBM and now doing the same with Intel. Good luck folks, I'm on my 3rd interview with my next probable employer and they are growing. GROWING!
