Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Here's an idea that can save you Thousands of $$ !

I live in OR and got ISP.

I don't have any other reason to live in OR than my job (ex-job now).

so, now, BEFORE I get my severance pay, if I move across the river to WA, can I save on OR tax (by being a non-resident) for that money, which could save me thousands!

I think there's a clause for OR that says "even if you don't live here, if your work is based here, you have to pay taxes". But when I'm not working "what work?", and if they are talking about intel's address, it's technically Santa Clara right?

And here's one more TWIST:

Can I then apply for unemployment in WA (can not apply in OR in that case anyway)?

ONLY PEOPLE WITH KNOWLEDGE ANSWER THIS. NO TROLLS PLEASE.

iF YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNTANT, PL. CHECK ASAP AND REPLY..

THIS COULD SAVE LOT OF RIOUS MONEY FOR LOTTA PEOPLE HERE!!!

"Income earned in or is taxed wherever you stay."

Indeed. You will owe on everything you get that was associated with your employment in OR. Better to hang tight and get your job search on. It's not like moving and living in WA is going to save you much, if anything, and (as you said) you may well have to relocate on your own dime to the next job anyways.

Best of luck. It's been long enough that I don't remember my WWID any more and that makes me happy. You will get there too.

Even with the resident requirement of 6 months you would still get Oregon taxes. You have to apply for unemployment through Oregon. Do it online.

Won't work. OR will consider your severance pay as income earned in OR.

You could have lived in WA for the entire time you worked at Intel, OR and despite living in WA and getting paid by a company HQ in CA, you would still have been taxed by OR.

Don't think for a minute that the FEDs or ANY state will miss a loophole and let you pull a fast one. All bases have been covered for decades.

Isn't there a minimum time to be considered a resident?

Don't know just asking the questions.
