Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Decided to quit the corporate world...

I will be eligible for ERP in March'17 and will take the package as soon as it is offered to me anytime after that. I started early, so still will be under 50, physically very fit and healthy, but I want to get out of this place and for that matter, want to get away from big corporations for ever. We never lived big, so have some savings and wife's modest income as a teacher plus whatever little money I can make by selling my paintings online, should be enough to allow our simple living. Feeling very disappointed seeing these big corporations killing our middle class, society, culture, political system, year after year and we cannot do anything. If we had kids, we would have advised them strongly to select a career that allows them to stay away from big corporations like this one. It makes me very sad to see what's happening to my co-workers, what's going around me and I know it's killing me slowly from inside, so I decided to get out before it's too late.

IT was supposed to be the most exciting field but has been completely ruined by the nasty MBA corporate types, their butt licking managers and their imported cheap laborers

I got it - the ERP, the whole pkg. I am still under 50 . Now I live where I wish and everyday is a treat. Everyday!!

I did a lot of work for the company , a lot. I was in the midst of sh-- of a few dumb managers and many a co-worker- still knew a lot more than all of them and they knew it. Bottom line - I came out on top !!

They wouldn't have a hill of beans chance of getting hired in my town ! hahhaha

Well, I'm still a year out from retirement eligibility, and wasn't offered VSP or forced ISP, so I'll hope for some retirement incentive next year. Obviously there are no guarantees

These are rough times and I've seen some really good colleagues kicked out. They were all smart engineers. Either ways, the new focal process will see much more of this happening.

Based on the multiple emails more than encouraging one to take VSP/ERP is more than telling how desperate management is in getting to "the number" Business prospects look terrible and are getting worse with every update going to them on pace of new products, pace of new technology, demand for current projects. BK and MCM is desperate to cut number of employees so I expect future layoffs will be far less generous. Take it while the taking is good, get out!

No guarantees on any ERP being available in the future. Per HR email this week:

"Employees who do not register for ERP and are impacted by a subsequent ACT action will receive the lower VSP package on exit plus their standard (not enhanced) retirement benefits."

Early retirement incentives have been offered before ACT. I'm with the OP in assuming that will continue after ACT.

I agree, let's take the opportunity. Life is too short for those kind of management decisions.

Good luck taking this path. With 3 kids, I cannot dream of doing so.

The Western World has shot itself in the foot. It's called Glibalization and it's killing us. We gave away for peanuts decades of advantage for cheap labour, so we can throw away a cheap item and replace it with a cheaper one.

Do you mind informing what your net worth is.

I understand if you don't want to share.

I'm under 50 but not erp but vsp.

Trying to figure out if I have enough.

Still have two kids to put through college but have factored both those in.
