McAfee never really fit. Are they going to offload it as part of the restructuring? Seems like a good time to undo that Renee James mistake.

Intel Security made there numbers this last quarter. Intel has reviewed there product lines and many are gone, not making money. They are moving to the cloud, more profit. Intel Security will be around as long as they make the number and continue to make products that protect the networks.
"I can't understand this. To me security and privacy should be pillars in cloud computing, 5G and IoT. Otherwise that whole industry is not credible and the hackers are kings."
Absolutely. I'd bet that there are a dozen or more efforts in multiple business units with different "solutions" for these things (of course thought up in a conference room at Intel vs. actually validated with customers). Maybe they reference piece parts of McAfee stuff but McAfee doesn't care unless someone from Intel proper is handing them direct sales deals for McAfee software (which 99% of the time isn't the case).
BK and Murphy never talk about security in their visions of the future. I can't understand this. To me security and privacy should be pillars in cloud computing, 5G and IoT. Otherwise that whole industry is not credible and the hackers are kings.
Having tried to work with McAfee from within Intel, the two companies (groups) couldn't be more different or uncoordinated.
And greater efforts at integration (e.g. placing Intel managers into McAfee) only confuses things and slows things down.
Anyone know if folks in McAfee are part of the ISP, VSP, etc.? If not, there's a special plan in the works for it (that will involve getting it ready to be sold/divested).
Obviously you guys do not understand security enough.
Can someone tell me again how security software dove tails with your core competency and or growth initiatives?
We do x86, we make chips at the leading edge, we are expensive and bloated as we have a competitive moat called x86 to protect us.
I can see how Altera adds something, but every other acquisition has been a spectacular fail, including this security thing.
If CEO and senior management can't explain it in one simple foil it is too complicated or to devious and stupid to fly. This was a pig that was never going to fly in x86 land.
Do y'all know how much it cost to complete this deal and do the integration? Well, divestiture will also cost. Both blood and treasure.
Absolute complete muck up by James. Need to get rid of it and extinguish the James legacy at the same time. What a phony!
McAfee is a bloated POS. Always bogged my laptop down .
I could definitely see it being spun off or otherwise divested. It's basically its own company inside Intel.
Any word on whether the McAfee office in Northern Virginia's going to be closed?
"Intel's former highest-ranking female exec, Renee James — who left the company in July — has surfaced with a new gig as a board member of Oracle, the company announced on Wednesday."
Renee got ISPed. But, she is (indeed) skilled. Got other job as member of Oracle's BOD. I do see that other 12K ISPs will also get BOD jobs. It is, after all, INTEL Outside! ;-)
