Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Sleep deprivation diagnosis

I was talking to a friend recently and he mentioned that he needed to go to doctors, when i asked what was wrong with him, he said he was diagnosed with sleep deprivation and he was still fighting consequences of him working for Intel. I myself got that diagnosis recently, and doctor mentioned that many Intel employees have that. I was wondering, how many of those laid off still experiencing health problems due to sleep deprivation while at Intel?

I am definitely not one of those 60-80 hour a week guys, but I came to the conclusion long ago that the compensation I am paid by Intel is in direct correlation to stress and poor sleep. Most of us are not paid well because we are geniuses and many of us are not paid well because we work inordinately hard. We are paid well because the environment is so stressful that it gobbles up people in just a few years and to keep employees going they need to be show a large carrot.

Every doctor's apt. the conversation has invariably come to the fact that the doc sees many Intel employees who suffer from stress. It's part of the job, unfortunately.

If you were working in or near a fab. It will take around a year or so for the chemical residue to clear of your body. Only idiots think that fabs are "clean".

You guys take your "intel" job way to seriously.

Go smoke it up with some green! You'll sleep just fine. Also be sure to steal stuff from cubes. And use intel's internet to play games/ surf porn etc. laptops are easy to rip off. Just look it up on the interwebs. Horking computer parts is quite fun too.

RE to @HvKMdcN-ggy:

I am the @HvKMdcN-ceh I appealed but HR leagal said as I was given IR so they can not help (they took time until the very last and kept me waiting.

On the other hand my manager mislead me to go to STD option (that way I lost about a month), but they said it does not fall under them as per my job description/records I am already working 40hrs/week and there is no mention I am working 100-120+ hours in an on-call weeks. It's an HR issue they mentioned.

So even though I was on ADA, due IR I was ISPed in 205 at my 2nd year (total 16 montsh of employment). But no worries, I am very now with my current job and have good night sleep.

Nice reply by vyu! I am finally getting some good sleep over the past month not worrying about working, or working on my laptop every night and on weekends. This is the greatest benefit of having received ISP. In addition, I no longer need to take "happy" pills to keep focused. Intel has never worried about the mental health of its employees, just ergonomic injuries. They completely bury this real issue affecting so many employees.

There is a reason we pay social security and short term disability insurance.

So it's there when we need it.

People who claim everybody is sucking the tit of the government will be the first ones crying for supplement income because they had a stroke due to the stress at work.

Our true mistake is staying at Intel.

@HvKMdcN-ce

That sounds like a lawsuit. They are suppose to accommodate ADA. Either find you another position or possibly go on std and then led

Did you get a lawyer?

I was booted 2 years ago and am just now starting to sleep better. While at intel my doc sent me to shrink for chronic anxiety and gave me sleep meds.

A follow-up that experience with the wellness happened the first year I think, each successive year they all understood what a horrible place this was.

I had the same experience. Intel ra3 health center doctor advised me no more than 40 hrs of work and no night and weekend oncalls. They filled out the ADA form so that I can be accommodated or changed to another job internally. Since I communicated that to my manager before my focal I was given ir, finally laid off in 2015 although I was working with Ada manager. My focal was just bases on 11months review and my total employment length at the time of layoff was 16 months. Terrible experience.

I remember once going for my yearly wellness check and they asked if I slept well. I told them I hadn't slept well in the 20+ years I worked at intel. The past few weeks there have been some days I have woken up early, but I sleep a lot better now not worrying about work and checking up on work all thru the night, first thing in the morning, multiple times on the weekends and always on vacations. Nope I'm done worrying about the company and keeping things running as the company sure doesn't seem to care much about me either. I sleep pretty well now!

Same here, my doctor was so mad that I was not taking care of myself, he was adamant about writing to Intel HR and my manager to give me MLOA, knowing what was coming at Intel, I politely refused.
