More than 50% of me wants to take the VSP but my main worry is finding a company with decent medical/life insurance. Also, I don't see many floor tech jobs listed that pay what Intel pays either.

I worked in Medical office prior to Intel; I really liked my job, my employer & the money/benefits not so much. Hoping to find something back in the medical field that has better benefits.
Care to enlighten others on the more rewarding field.

It is all in how you value life -- obviously some value sh-- money more than quality of every day of their life.
As another poster said, talk to your FLM, they are closest and hopefully whether backstabbing or not will be the one that champions you or not. They won't want an open door with you at mid-year or focal as that takes lots of their valuable time away from making ppt foils or making the numbers for the SLM. They tell you to take it, take it. Unless you got it good with the SLM he only cares at the largest level to keep as many people so he can manipulate his numbers to justify his value or move people around to protect is kingdom.
If you are SNE, lots of jobs out there, yeah they aren't as high paying, but live within your means, sell your expensive toys and you should be good.
If you are an older EE you are likely SOL, take the best package. It is a poker game, they want you to take it as if you don't BK, SS, and Richard summary numbers won't look good and they will need to resort to more ISP ( layoffs ). I personally think Intel won't cut the package regardless of the bluff, so might as well milk the company for a few more months, put your resume in flight, and start interviewing, better to secure the job while you are still getting a paycheck.
What a terrible time to be an average hard working employee, got to believe more then 60% or 50,000 very stressed and confused employees that are less productive than they could be. Another screwed up move by intel. Would have been better to make painful but meaningful cuts versus put the whole company into emotional stress.
Take the VSP. You can look for your new position with a clear head. By staying you are risking immediate ISP. Intel does not care about you, just that they meet their numbers. Why stay in such a hostile environment when you know things will only get worse?
All jobs are temporary...be happy you made the salary you did while at Intel. Time to move on and adjust to a new salary.
You have to work with what you are given, not what you wish it could be.
Talk to your SLManager. if he/she say ''take VSP", take it. if SLM says stay, asses the risk yourself. I am taking it; 7 months pay gives me enough buffer to find a job. Tech unemployment is only 2% at the moment.
Intel is using scare tactics to get people to take VSP, it is very likely they will continue to offer similar ISP package in the future to avoid bad PR and potential lawsuits.
If I was you I would stay to buy time and look for a job as it is more difficult to find a job when unemployed based on statistics. After all why not get Intel to pay up for another 3 to 6 months.
meh. Next ISP is next week and the week after and the week after that. It will all be THE SAME
No promise of next ISP being the same
From what I've heard, VSP and ISP are nearly identical, but with ISP you are eligible for unemployment. In that case, I would stay, but spend your time looking for your next job. You will most likely be impacted eventually, but that way you buy yourself more time to job search. The job market is over saturated right now with the unemployed, so job searching may also be better once all this settles down.
