Every night now for past 2 month I come home from office and hit the bottle just to get some stress relief and then I wake up with a huge hangover and have to go to the office. I feel terrible all day and my performance sucks but nobody seems to notice but worried about how long that can continue for. I manage to get out at lunch time for a drink and that helps me get through the afternoon until I get back home and can hit the whisky again. I don't know what to do about this and am worried I may accelerate the very thing I am trying to avoid, i.e.: getting laid off. The morale in our office is terrible. Anybody else having this problem in Schlumberger?

Ah blame something else for your failures. If you get laid off what you gna do then, drink more? It's out of your hands so if you wanna drink now and prime yourself for an even worse time then go ahead. But i would say quit drinking and see what happens. Its out your hands.

Today is Saturday and I am going to get piss drink tonight and do something crazy like call my boss and tell him I am quitting!!!
People are stressed buddy and some turn to these things. We should be helping them and not punishing them
What this hell is going on and I truly hope this forum is not representative of our company or we are in big problems with substance and alcohol abuse which I don't believe or use. Yes it's PROHIBITED

Go to the gym and burn your stress out there like a man. You could also visit a prostitute once a week for some stress relief which works really well for me.

Check the drug and alcohol policy. There's a thing about self-identifying if you have a problem. If you are up front about it, they need to work with you and will help you get treatment. Talk to your manager or your HR Manager. If you go to rehab, it may qualify as disability and they can't touch you. The idiot who thinks you can spark doobies in CO because it's legal is an idiot. SLB must maintain a "drug free workplace" b/c we are a federal contractor. The feds still haven't legalized marijuana... so if you get popped for marijuana on a drug screen you're screwed. Doesn't matter about the state law. But it's easier for office folks to get away with it than Field employees. Field guys are constantly being screened.
Go to denver and get some weed. They cant do anything since its legal there.
I have seen that my focus improves as much as 5 times with the high + colorado office coffee.

You still have time, sell your house trade in the Ford 250, downsize, and forget them. They apparently did not care about you, or your family. STOP go look at your wife and now look at your kids, you trusted these people with what you love most and this is how they treat us. All the lies and dirt we did to protect the SLB name. Put the drink down and look ahead its coming just be sober enough to leave before they let you leave. SLB does not care about you never has never did. A peace of mind is priceless...
I know this may sound harsh buy you probably are better to be laid off and take the time to fix your problem. Let somebody who is sober do your job and not have you risk other people lives with your drinking and I assume driving as you need to get to the office. If you don't mind me asking which office do you work out of?
The problem is if I speak with HR or counseling and they find out I have a drink problem then for sure my future in the company will be limited. They will consider me weak and not worthy of a manger position so I can't do that and will
just try to cut back myself but it's going to be very hard on me and my family.
And the lesson is....stay away from alcohol...if you never start, you'll never get addicted...alcohol has no nutritional value

Don't let them ruin your life! You have your health that's all that matters. I was laid off 5 months ago started my own business and doing great.
SLB has a counseling service, its anonymous and if you can get the 800 # called in today, you'll not only help yourself you'll be labeled as a person they won't lay off and you'll be safe which will end the stress, keep the wife happy and the kids fed. Its working for me.....
You could perhaps talk with your HR manage to get some support and counseling after all it's is your company's actions and laying off people that is causing your stress. Surely they must have a program for counseling employees with this problem and there must be many like you still around. Don't think for one minute you are the only one with this problem.
Well use a high end whiskey to avoid hangover. Also eat a big steak after to get protein. This combination is a quick fix to a miserable life.
That's one thing I have noticed in this mass layoff/bust of 2015/16 of the patch HR/Mgmt isn't doing - the Piss test. Back in 2009 bust, searching ways to get rid of people, they pissed test the shxt outa everyone. Interesting.....
To the person that posted this - if they piss test you in the office, your done and that will stay on your 7yr SLB Personnel record and might travel to other companies by word of mouth ending your career period. I'd suggest putting the bottle up and focus on your job...

Sadly there are many like this. I have been watching my husband do this and it is very hard on me and everyone around him. Please go seek the help of a counselor.
You know drinking is not ganna help but increasing the possibility to lose your job based on company's policy. You should start thinking positively because you still keep your job... You don't know how messy it is for the current market, and WAKE UP please....
