Why said INTEL IOT strategy? INTEL IOT strategy is dead cat bounce, another $10B wasted/evaporated in thin air!

Everybody in IOT and their brother in this business, they are making/will make SoCs for a $10 USD or less.

For INTEL making money here, how much does a 14nm wafer cost and with that yield how many $10 USD or less SoCs will need to be on/sold it to get ever a 10% GM?

10nm?! It will NOT come on time. 22nm is old news, not much money and revenue there. For 14nm no more designs and old products with already almost double digit percentage volume drop.

The only way IoT will help intel is in the back data cloud space. All them 10 buck devices need to store their data somewhere and it needs to be processed and the hope that will be more 1000 dollar power hungry Xeon burning lots of power for the few % minutes they are actually doing work. Wait till Google, FB, Amazon and others get ARM and their other custom designed chips working and the 60% GM and 1000 and 10000 dollar chip sales will vanish about as fast as 1000 dollar CPUs for the PC did in the 90s.

ARM everywhere soon... x86 will be go the way of big-iron, mini computers, workstations. The ARM game is a repeat of the x86 game to the others, and CRB, PSO, BK never could see it, to busy protecting the golden x86 goose.

The problem with Intel Inside IoT is that there's the internet of BIG things, like infrastructure equipment involving network function virtualization, and the internet of LITTLE things, like wearables and embedded controllers. Intel should be able to compete in the former, which consists of big iron and PC-like systems. However the volumes are not going to be the "billions" that the execs are talking about - probably 100k would be a big sale. The problem for the other category is that the margins are going to be much less than Intel is accustomed to. And to be part of the connected embedded world you need to be part of the embedded world first, and Intel has no presence in the (small) embedded space. So it's a great sound bite to say Intel will be a big player in the IoT space where the volumes are in the billions, but there's a disconnect there that the execs aren't owning up to.

Intel has never had success modifying older nodes. The whole company mentality is all about the latest node. The TD team is too fascinated with the value of density on the leading edge not realizing high yield on depreciated lower cost is very compelling and analog doesn't scale and many IoT need high voltage and analog more than crazy density and performance of 14nm

I cant believe why we have to be in the latest and greatest process node for IoTs? Cant we use the good old 22nm which would have a higher yield and which may help with greater time-to-market?

What IoT product will Intel make? Amazon, Google and Apple you think they would come to intel after they screwed them with x86 prices. Intel will have to sell chips like they did for tablets and Phones at loss to near loss. The last conpany anyone wants to buy from is intel. Of course anyone can be bought. But look at Intels balance sheet it is terrible at the moment. Yeah they generate lots of cash but with the recent debt to but Altera they ain't no big bank and they are going to have billions to spend to get 10nm ready.

I can imagine intel making gargage door and refrigerator chips like Freescale how sad for a company that once was the envy of the world. No making chips at near loss

@HtznnVn-unn, this fog what you're creating: smoking mirrors, like INTEL mobile strategy? Who you are tricking? Myself, all these people reading these posts, yourself (to ease your endless pain), or you are just (masked in ship clothes) wolf HR Legal, trying to deny/defy undeniable???

Let me, you useless bum, tell you the story: once upon a time: I was attending one Exhibition (does NOT matter which one), as INTEL guy, I am still (imagine that!). :-)

And then...I visited Freescale booth. Asking about ARM Cortex-A9 i.MX6 Multicore CPUs. The guy in the booth (they brought me one very good technical guy, since all others were dummies), start answering the questions. Many of them.

At The End, he handed me his visit card, and asked: and, may I ask, who are you? I giggle, and said: nobody, my friend, just walking and asking... But he insisted!?

I decided to open: I am "INTEL Inside"... To prove this, I handed out to him my visit card. He literally went down to his butt, and replied... I could NOT believe, I NEVER NEVER saw INTEL guy coming to Freescale booth, for 10 years I am with Freescale!!!

This is how you, INTEL POS, are ignorant to competition. Idiots, this is what you are.

And you know what: what goes around, comes around! Remember this (for your own sake).

@ecp is correct. Also, sub-$10 parts wouldn't be made on the leading node, not sure why you assumed that. But at 14nm you'd get many thousands, possibly tens of thousands, of small chips.

Also, IOT's ASP was $90 in Q1.
