Noyce, Moore, and Grove were legends, brilliant both business, technology and visionaries.
Craig while academically trained and smart a cut below
Paul or PSO well he has an MBA any questions why he didn't take the Apple offer he did the P/L and said NO
Brian Krzanich or BK as he is known what is academic record. What was his career accomplishments, beyond the fluffy of rising fast, what did he really do.
Look at the CEOs or leaders of the other companies, either brilliant, or do have a track record of brilliance and insight, yeah ambitions and working hard aren't not what will make a company successfully in executing what clearly is a right hand turn. THe reality is very few companies execute this successfully. Many have had positions of monopoly like Intel. As BK said he wants to do this while Intel is still strong and makes money. So he institutes a stupid talent and morale sucking blind by the numbers layoff. He talks about transparency but nothing is transparent to the layoff, company strategy or frankly how this will recover.
I see significant more downsizing and pain for Intel. Everybody in technology is hungry for intel's business and margins, they are all clawing at it. Frankly TSMC, Samsung, Global Foundry are now close or passing Intel in the technology. ARM, Qualcomm, Apple, and others now design stellar if not better products because competition breeds innovation. X86 has always been about crushing AMD and faster for MS OS.. there is no competition so Intel just draws a straight line from where they were before. They simply don't understand nor can comprehend the external way of thought or competition.
Now that several Qualcomm castaways are here, it will be interesting if the captains can change the product side. But their is no saving intel of the manufacturing side is late again, no product how lean, how smartly defined and featured can compete if it is late.
