Wisconsin anthem employee here. Just saw the reminder not to talk to the media on worknet and was informed that things such as the PTO policy change etc were starting to make sense. Any indications that any of the Wisconsin anthem offices would lay off workers? Never been thru this before and I'm starting to freak out a bit. No WARN noticed filed that I could see. Please excuse my naïveté.

Tom Price, CIO, is a Coke guy, born and raised in Atlanta. He brought his Coke buddies to Anthem with him, and they are moving 2,000 IT jobs from several states to Atlanta. They told us it is a 5 year plan, but we don't believe him. He said we will all be notified by end of March is our group is moving in 2017 or after 2017. Mr. Price is openly enthusiastic about replacing existing employees with young college graduates from Georgia universities.
AnotherEmployee, that is awful, but sadly not surprising. Leadership at best looks like they are not communicating with one another on how to make changes to benefit the org, at worst they are incompetent. Notice how they got rid of the employee survey and went to a "sample" for the review? I guess they got tired of hearing how bad they are leading. PTO policy changed to rob you of earned PTO when they let you go. AIP calculation went from being about department and individual performance to entirely tied to the stock price and earnings. EPS is something they can directly manipulate. My guess is that 2016 was the last healthy AIP you will see. I personally don't expect one next year and if so it will be very anemic. Work from Home is the next thing to go and then you will see the exodus.
I work in the govt business division in CA, and they laid off my team manager last month with zero advance warning, literally the day we celebrated our team exceeding all the goals for Q2. It could not have been crueler timing. She brought in a lunch of homemade pulled pork with all the extras for us. Half an hour into it her boss shows up from corporate, takes her into a room and tells her, sending her home for the rest of the day, then a few minutes later pulls us into a meeting to tell us she's been cut and we're all going to be reassigned. She consistently delivered beyond what was expected but she was also the highest paid at her level.
This week (literally beginning right after her last day) corporate sent people in to paint various walls a godawful lime green color (which looks extra nasty given our entire building's interior is grey, navy and mauve) and hang a bunch of expensive artsy canvas mounted photos on them so that our building is more reflective of the Anthem culture or some such nonsense. I guess they used the money they're saving from my former manager's salary.
Departmental budgets are slashed in just about every way possible. Hiring freezes, and no backfilling of open positions too. Hard to say what will happen in terms of staff reductions, but it certainly makes me think if we don't have a miraculous Q3 rebound layoffs will be inevitable.
Reduced Force, sorry to hear about that. Leadership is really a mess if you ask me. not surprising that they would let people know in such a chaotic and unprofessional way. hope you can find something soon.
Yes, layoffs are typical in some form during Q4. But look at the earnings report. med cost ratio is climbing. need to start trimming where they can to boost up the numbers to meet street expectations.
There have been a few eliminated positions in FDL office along with hundreds more around the offices in the US. We got invite to a group call in conference to be told that we were there because our position was eliminated. The call was impossible to hear after they opened up fo questions. So very disorganized and impersonal way to tell long term associates "You're Fired"
It's pretty typical to have layoffs here in October and November, other than the pending merger, any reason why you think this year will be bigger than others?
Hearing a lot. Strong rumors suggest that big layoffs coming in October or November. The Street probably knows more than any of us on the Cigna deal but I am leaning towards it not happening.
Odds also looking more slim that we will not have AIP payout. Need to hit EPS targets and that is looking less and less likely.
Layoffs resulted in loss of mngr & team leader in NCC.
Anthem just laid-off their direct sales team in Denver, CO this week.
I'm experiencing the same thing in my department, I have entire days with little or nothing to do. I am worried about job security.
Am suspicious. Numerous projects cancelled with barely any notice. Not slowed down but completely shut off. Will have dozens of associates with really nothing to do for balance of 2016.
Hopefully it's just a friendly reminder as the Cigna merger is looming closer.
