Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Other industries do not pay well

I have been looking outside O&G for 8 months now and turning down offers because of a minimum 25% pay cut on the base pay and no bonus at all, compared to what i was making at SLB (25% higher pay and 20% bonus). I have tuurned down offers because of this. Now i feel i should take it up. I really wish SLB would get my Job back,atleast for the $$$. I would take it.

How many of you think, SLB will call you back, if you call your ex manager and show interest when things pick back up?

wait, you are dropping offers left and right.. and you are unemployed for 8 months? have you calculated how much loss revenue you threw away while looking at 20% reduction in pay?

You are going to take a pay cut to go into a different industry because you don't have experience there. That should be common sense. If I was you, I would take the next offer you receive, if you truly like the company and industry, and bust your ass The pay will come back if you show you are a valuable employee, something SLB couldn't give two sh--s about. And if it's not in the oil industry, it will be a hell of a lot more stable where you aren't having to worry about getting laid off every 4-8 years.

Also consider the value of health insurance benefits, retirement accounts, and pension. Better to have some kind of job, then be labeled as "unemployed".

your lucky to be getting offers will add that. Congrats! And no, there are a good amount of skills you did at SLB that do not transfer well to other industries. And no I wouldn't wait for SLB to call you back, that could be a few more years. Even if oil gets back up, all oil industry will ride their current employees they kept and work the piss out of them to the breaking point = slow to hire back = the SLB slogan of Multiple multitasking job duties. If I was in your shoes (original poster of this), the next job offer threw at you, probably should take it more seriously and be thankful for a paycheck and staying busy rather than on here complaining.

Grossly overpaid staff is one of the reasons why Schlumberger is losing out to the rest of the herd. Oil has settled at the price it should be and as there is too much oil this is unlikely to change for years. You will find that your Schlumberger 'skills' are sadly lacking in relevance in the real world.

It is much easier to find a job when you already have one. If you are lucky enough to get an offer, take it, and then keep searching for something better.

Turning down offers while not having a job? i think you are one of the lucky people to even get an offer, I really do believe it is easier to find a job while in a job, so i would be jumping at anything available while unemployed.

Depending on your relationship with your ex bosses, there is a good chance to get called back when times are better, i am keeping the good guys names and contacts for future use and they will be the first i call when i need them.
