Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I understand that three people who were offered VSPs have interviewed and accepted positions in other groups at Intel.

We were led to believe that these VSP packages were given to "low performers". If this is true, why is HR and Legal being selective as to who can get their VSP offers ignored? That is downright discriminatory! HR and Legal decisions are ARBITRARY.

The f--- is your problem? It's voluntary; other groups want to take the risk, so what?

@-haw: no they are not. Most of the times they are paid lowest entry level salaries for each position. You can see the salaries offered to H-1Bs for every company on the internet.

Lawyers are hoping that firings due to 'performance' will be found legally defensible. This is why you see the word 'performance' also associated with VSP people. In case they need to fire you later, there is some kind of criteria that support your 'poor performance'.

Nothing arbitrary with that. If you have been working with DCG or IoT on critical tasks, they have they power to do a buyback

The last update to the q n a said "performance based voluntary program ", so even 'today' I would consider that they are saying the vsp is a performance message

Open forums and communications from Intel leaders: Consider your decision about taking your VSP pkg because if Intel does not get 12,000 by Jun, then ISPs are coming! And, we cannot guarantee that the pkg will be as good as today's. What is voluntary about these veiled innuendos???

I disagree with the misconceptions on cheap h1bs. They are paid equal as US workers.

@ufn: Nope, VSP/ISP has nothing to do with performance. It's all about changing demographics to a political correct fad of 'diversity' and a desire to dumb down the workforce by replacing skills with cheap H1Bs. Furthermore HR and Legal has everything to do with this travesty, bunch of criminals imnsho.

I have no idea what you're talking about. The "V" in VSP stands for voluntary, meaning the employee can choose not to take it. HR and legal have nothing to do with it, nobody is being ignored. The hiring manager may not even know the person was offered a VSP (unless they look at their time in grade and last few focals).

Also, a technicality. The ISP was "offered" to low performers. The VSP wasn't a performance message "today" but may convert to one in the future as the numbers are reviewed. Basically, it was a warning.

Can you bring this case forward to HR? If not, sounds like this is a good story for the media.
