Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

President is asking me to go out for dinner but I can't stand him - what should I do?

I am a young female engineer and somehow our segment president has got the hots for me but I am not interested in him at all however I don't want to lose my job if I say no.

Any others have this type of experience? How should I handle it?

Except his offer. Buy a fake engagement ring and during diner do nothing but gush about your new (but just out of jail and working his way through counseling for violent assault- "it really wasn't his fault") husband to be (Tell your boss he's from Aberdeen or Mississippi or Texas). If that doesn't do it, the jerk is beyond dealing with but at least you know.

Your HR Manager told you to go on the date? For real???? Are they the Segment HRM or the Basin HRM? Who was this HR person?

I think I know which president you are talking about and coming from the Middle East he loves to play rough with women (and occasional young males) so unless you like being beaten or tied up stay away from him as it may be more than your feeling that get hurt

There are/were only 5 hot women in SLB. I doubt you are one of them! Be happy someone is showing interest in you.

Colleges don't pay athletes to play, steroids are not used in sports and sexual harassment doesn't exist in the professional world. Lol geez…..

You're doomed even if you get to transfer. A girl moved to our facility a few years ago under a similar instance. She was marked as a pariah from day one for being a "possible HR nightmare" and was eventually let go. Your best move at this point is to find another job asap. I promise you, this will follow you on your transfer and more importantly, has the potential to damage future career moves depending on who you use as a reference. Pick wisely and best of luck. It's great you kept your dignity but unfortunately, as you progress through your career, you'll learn that those who lose theirs are the ones on top. (pun intended)

Do it for your future career - bang him

Out of all the pointers on this, this one below would be the best forward choice in this situation.

"You must go with him and be nice but professional (will add that this dinner should be a group, it should include other employees). Otherwise you will be seen as ungrateful to your superiors and in SLB that is a cardinal sin. Your career will be over before it been gets started. You may even enjoy the dinner (this is why I got laid off, was invited to after work activities but chose not to and feel it caught up to me during the hard times we're in).

Remember to massage the balls while you're down there. That will get you bonus points.

Hi and thanks for some

of the more serious comments. I declined the offer and have asked for a transfer. I may also lose my job but my dignity is intact. I like this forum because it's the only place I can ask these types of questions. I could not trust our HR manger because he reports to the president and he suggested I should go on the date if I wanted my career to progress and I should consider it. This is unacceptable to me and if I don't get the transfer I may just quit.

Take him to a Megadeth/Motorhead concert. Be sure to you're in a silver tube top, fishnets, knee high black biker boots and your hair is blue. Take him to the pit and start grinding. When things get hot and you both are hammered make your way to the bathroom and have him raw dog you. Take something with you to muffle the screaming. Then post it to Craigslist. This way this story will finally have some truth to it.

This is the layoff board. Not the pre-layoff board or the Getting Laid By My Segment President board. Segment Presidents don't know that field employees exist. They want some nice clean office girl who sits around doing her nails and updating Instagram all day. I smell a troll. But perhaps end your agony by asking a magic 8-ball or putting 2 slips of paper in a bag ( labeled "Dinner" and "No dinner"), then pick one Either method is likely as legitimate as the advice you will get on this board.

There is no doubt favoritism helps here, we recently released someone on direct orders from above, even though N+1 and N+2 said it should not be this person and should be someone else, it simply did not matter as the manager from above simply had it in for this person.

I think you should say no and find another man to take you out, saying it was already organized.

Definitely a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. If you go, he could expect something more but if you don't go or report it, you'll probably be eventually let go for whatever reason. I've personally seen peoples careers sabotaged by upper management for offending the wrong person. People act as tho this sort of thing never happens but I can assure you, it happens all the time. How else do you think that little unexperienced new intern jumped to management in a year? It's the unfortunate way things go, and not just for female employees either. I've seen a share of male employees involved in situations such as this as well. Honest advice: go but keep it professional. You'll get brownie points and in rough times like these, favoritism is worth it's weight in gold. It's how many at my facility have eluded the axe so far.

Your career will depend on this and don't go to HR as he will deny it and you will be transferred. Look for another job

Go straight to HR. This is a clear violation of the code of business conduct, and is illegal under sexual harassment laws. Good luck.
