Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Site consolidation

HR instruction just received today. sh-- about to hit the fan. Jump ship now :)

Training sessions are underway for managers of employees at closing sites to provide details on notification process and specific site actions. Next week manager will begin notifying each employee of the decision made for their role - whether the'll be asked to co-locate, relocate, or separate from Intel. HR will lead the manager training efforts across the sites in the US and will be on site along with financial representatives and outplacement services to create high-touch transition centers to employees after they received their notification packets. For sites in Asia and Europe, we are beginning notifications as per local requirements. Note that for countries outside the U.S. site notification completion and manager training will vary due to local and legal requirements.

Not everyone has been told in US, for example some divisions may

Consolidate to only certain US sites even if that site is still open. Example: IT may consolidate to several key sites in US.

Is this for site closures? I thought all US sites had been notified already. Group specific co-location is a different animal and could be announced anytime btw now and end of June.

@HsHRBDX-uwb

This thread is about site consolidation, not about project cancelation.

All US site closures had been notified by now.

@HsHRBDX-cmz, not everyone has been notified. The server team in FM is currently waiting the decision and employees are real worried. The manager is not telling them just asking to wait. Some of the employees have been calling HR to get more clarification with no luck.

@HsHRBDX-ktu, LMAO. Intel is so proud to be the leading layoff company. Heck, it made the top 10 company for the layoff.

15 miles, not 50.

If you are colocated, you don't get the option of taking a package.

Relocation means moving to another Intel site. If you refuse that, you get a package.

I believe all of the us sites impacted by closures have been notified.

At Intel we benchmarked our layoffs to the industry and we're proud to announce that we have industry-leading layoffs.

Intel proving to be very good at layoffs and handing out packages. Only if they could package a mobile chip.

What sites will be impacted?

Co-locate: within 50 miles of your old site. You get to keep your job, just show up for work at other site. No relo package

What's the diff between co-locate and relocate? Either way you moving, no?

This shouldn't be news for anyone who is working in a site that is closing -- people will get to see what their actual seperation package numbers will look like and what their options are.

"Jump Ship Now"? That's about the dumbest thing I've heard.

For most of the people in sites that are closing, if they can't work from home, they get to have a steady job for the next 6-18 months -- and then get a pretty hefty lump sum payout, with 6 months to a year of additional health coverage. Why the hell would you jump ship now?

If you have an offer you can't refuse, then take it. Otherwise, go down with the ship and take that seperation money. On top of that, once you are cut free in january, you will be able to file for unemployment benefits.

Jumping ship now is a terrible idea unless you are being forced to colocate somewhere horrible.
