New jobs after SLB

To all that are still with Big Blue or no longer. Has everyone found new jobs or know of any jobs looking for experienced Ex-SLB. Instead of having negatives morale, at least we can share and network to support each other during these times. Not asking for myself but for all. Feed back guys and girls.

Laid off few months back and from what I'm seeing the overall job Mkt is "tight". This area is Oil field and all people know and do is Oil Field, lol......I've been restarting old networking buddies and I'm getting the vibe from that end that they have already been hammered about getting a job where they work. So I'm concluding the last couple days that my next job will take a good deal of time to find and a lot of patience. Since 2009 bust, these companies started using new software that basically filters 95% online jobs candidates that apply. So what that means, when you apply to one online, you basically just wasted your time. That's what it means.....They absolutely do not want people dropping by in person anymore, lol. If you have the correct "key words and key word counts" in your resume it will then go to HR who does a "human filter" of candidates. Truly amazing. Companies do not and almost will not TRAIN people for jobs anymore. They are looking for 20 somethings with 15-25 years of experience - pay them sh--, with zero training investment. That is the new age of USA Industry! Adding, I also have a good friend that was laid off year ago or so, this person still hasn't found a job.........boy howdy..

All - don't let my above recent experience since being laid off get you down. As I said I'm just getting started to my next job what ever it maybe. Job hunting will push your buttons, its a different monster than we're all use to. My advice is to have 2-4 different resumes that target different avenues and input the correct words to try and snag. And go and rekindle networking buddies.

I was a machinist at Smith(later SLB) & left in Feb 2014 for kinship. I lasted there 1 1/2 yrs & got laid-off in Aug 2015. After 6 months unemployment & 3 months driving a school bus, I finally found a super machinist job in Deer Park. It's a 70 mile drive one way, but I live this job. Great things happen after Big Blue. PS: I'm one of the older guys!

People with only a few years' experience that were released in the early layoff rounds have been able to find new jobs. More experienced (older) people have had less success. This is based on my personal contacts with former staff and others I have worked with.

To my Ponca City friends: DW just had a job fair and is still looking for machine operators. Just like Smith 10 years ago.
