I have been looking all over the US for about 6 months now. No luck. I had been with SLB for 12+ yrs. Mech Engineer/Project Manager. I wish i could be called back. SLB was the only place i worked, I cant find work and i dont mind going back. Anyone like me here?

SLB the lowest of pay for oil service companies. I was in shock when I went there years ago and I knew already due to receiving recent SLB deserters in the 1990s.

I went to what was a prime SLB Center to later become over run by all the bureaucratic BS and corporate chaos. All the glitter and glamour of the lower pay but Golf Driving Range onsite, Early afternoon Soccer games to observe and drink beer with comrades, awesome catered Bar B Q, etc...

It all went away and replaced with once year ice cream cone served by Center Manager who ever he was that year and nobody knew him nor he knowing any of us.

The Gravy Train left many years ago, All the perks most of you never knew are long gone replaced with LOW PAY and back stabbing punk new-hires that all know EVERYTHING!

OMG...What a F'n 19 ring circus it all became.

Dwindled to no room or incentive to be creative. Everyone dumbed down to fill in blanks in GEMS.

Lowes pays as much and moral much better. Chance of hooking young, cute and naive girls for fun in back lot!

OMG.....Just hang in there. IT will all get rosey again transferred to India.

I've successfully taken up in the field of mortuary science and after 10 years of working at Schlumberger I must say it is a most refreshing career choice. Hope to see Paal and friends stop in for a makeover some day.

I haven't been looking for a job as long as this person who's posted this. But will add the job mkt overall from what I've seen so far is "tight" here in this area. The Oil Field Industry is everything for everyone here in this area. For the past couple of months I will say I've just began to prepare, I'm just started peeling the pages back, I'm just beginning to shake off reality and preparing to move on to my next job what ever that maybe. I'm trying to network with old school buddies and such and I can tell by that, these people have already been hammered about jobs so that also has been difficult.

I recently started working with the Lee Hecht Harrison group SLB pays for to assist you in finding a job after they lay you off. At 1st I blew these people off but recently visited with a very helpful person employed by this company and learned some good pointers in a short period of time. If you are a recent SLB Laid off/hit by the axe - I highly recommend accepting this service and at least listening to these people to help you even if its just a resume. They have helpful pointers, good plans of attack, and awesome resume skills. I don't agree to everything they say and sometimes I felt they wasn't with the reality of the Oil Patch right now. But, their job is to "motivate you" - the job hunter and punch it in your mind you the best hire in a line of 200 for a interview. There's my two cents....

Unfortunately companies are reluctant to hire right now. There are so many people out of work and looking. Some of the people I have spoken to are seeking jobs outside of O&G. Many are receiving lesser paying jobs. Perhaps find a job outside of the industry. See how you like it. If the pay isn't what you desire or the industry, perhaps try finding a different job while you have the other job. It is sad. Best of luck to you.

Are you applying for all types of jobs? or sticking around oil and gas industry? i have heard of many people not getting other jobs as the employers fear you will just leave again as soon as the upturn starts.

Thankfully i am not in your position but i do really feel bad for you and all the people in your position, knowing it can happen to me at any time, good luck with the hunt.
