I am really stressed due to recent and upcoming layoffs. Have been 9 years here and I'm not sure I can stand the humiliation of being kicked out after giving my heart and soul to this company.
I am thinking about resigning, even though I didn't get a VSP.
Any other people here feel that stressed or is it just me?

Intel has got to be the back-stabbiest place I've worked (GE was close). It is a sad commentary on Intel culture and managers that one must use an external anonymous board to discuss things.
If there was little trust before the layoffs, it's only going to get worse after.

It is hard for me not to get involved emotionally in any workplace. Now it's a curse, at good times, a blessing.
It seems the consensus is something I can actually do: prepare to leave, start interviewing while still working at Intel. Maybe this can get some of the burden off my heart. I suspect some people around me are doing the same.
It is a pity our company culture doesn't allow real direct connection between us. We need to use an external board to say and hear the truth...
And may lose some short term disability too.
With ISP you get unemployment pay.. with VSP you don't. If you leave voluntarily you don't.
Hey, worked here many more years than you. Do what is best for you, the company don't care for you one bit. The HR and even your manager is only doing what saves their paycheck and allows them to pay mortgage and put food in their at belly. That is the same all the way up. Get. Your resume polished and all your networks working and get off the ship. Good people of all sorts will leave as Moore is dead, next node is going to be late and it will get really more ugly soon. IoT, 5G, and memory are all low margin business that can't rescue a company used to 60% gross margins and poisoned / arrogant we are right culture!

Let me post an alternative view - that the stress is not a bad thing. Yes, almost everyone in my division is stressed out. Colleagues and friends are leaving, we already are having to do more work, customers notice the difference already.
At the same time, contrary to Intel core values, Intel employees rarely reveal their true feelings. Focal is a secretive process, layoff or firing criteria is a secret known only to BK apparently. Company strategies are not secret but are never subject to questioning or criticism.
Now the lid is off and everyone is complaining and stressed out. Maybe it's about time.
There's your problem -- given this company (or any others for that matter) your heart and soul. Man don't you know by now that everyone is replaceable? Work hard yes, but save your heart and soul for what's important like your family. No job is worth that much from you.
I agree with the other posters who say you shouldn't quit. I've jumped ship many times in my career, but always after I'd established a gangplank to a new company. Don't just quit - that's a win-lose, where the company gets what it wants and you take all the costs and risks. Use the current goings on as the signal to start in earnest looking for your next gig, keep collecting salary and benefits while you do, and maybe luck out with a severance package right before you plan to leave. But don't let the man goad you into doing him a favor.
Why? You have a safety net for the time being. Nothing you can do to change the things unfolding so stay sharp and make her right call for yourself and family. This is no time for a meltdown!! Buck up OP
I burn one every morning in the parking lot. How else can you walk into that hell. Don't worry, not working where anyone is at risk.

You are stressed out? Just imagine how you would feel when you are laid off. Best thing is to pack up and leave or suffer like you have been.
Take a vacation! Or as mentioned, go smoke you out have a smoke out with some clean Oregon Green.
You are not your job, You are not your paycheck. intel is nothing more than a paycheck, it's foolish to put your heart and soul in to such a thing.
And don't resign! Get as much money as you possibly can including VSP.
Oh and there is no humiliation to getting laid off, they would be doing you a favor. No more stress! OK.
Layoffs and managing by fear has not been uncommon by failing companies. Those managers still need to prove their existence and to assure their fat paychecks before the ship sinks or they are out the door.
Yes! Thank you for sharing. Too many of us suffer silently, or just mock people a sick defense mechanism. I am incredibly stressed out. I wish they would just tell us which projects are cut or not cut...I am going crazy. Why are they dragging this out? Great Place To Worry.
You are not alone in the stress department, friend! There are thousands of us that feel this way. Why stress? The company has not been successful in years and is losing ground to the competition. If Intel was doing well and had a hot commodity, we would probably feel the opposite and the workplace would be enjoyable. But now the squeeze is on and many areas of the company are shrinking. It is only a matter of time before layoffs catch up with you in this environment. In your case, I agree that there are probably exciting careers out there that you may adapt immediately to; however, I would find that job first before resigning.
Yes - very stressfull and demotivated. However knowing to be impacted as a part of sites closure itsn't Less stressfull - still need to be responsible for my familly. My recommendation is to get yours situation under control, start doing the planing, and start to think if you want to do something else. I need to start planning a new chapter in my life.

I think you should try to find a new job first. If you quit, no separation pay or medical. No unemployment insurance. Just think it through and good luck.
