Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Reason I am not taking VSP

I have been coasting at Intel for past 15 years with good pay. Unfortunately, I do not have the marketable skills needed to work for another company. I have been able to cruise for many years by talking my way through things and am pretty good with creating slides and presentations. I went on interviews a few years ago but was not able to answer any of the technical interview questions.

That is the sad truth about Intel. Even worst is that good people who actually contribute to the company got kicked out since they don't have enough time to play politics. People like OP will become a larger percentage (My guess, 30%) and managers really can't tell who they are.

I am really curious to see f any of the ones I know will ever be kicked out of Intel.

I really despise this place...

It's very unfortunate but many of us personally know or crossed path with such engineers or managers. And they folks usually being able to talk usually rise very fast and attain senior position and able to continue push their way up or sustain their position without much hands on or actually carry out the tasks. Those people who carry out the actual work are usually tiny ppl in the team who gets successful... while the managers / tech lead on top gets most of the credits. It is quite unfortunate the Intel culture ultimate foster and reward ppl who behave this way.

One thing my senior told me in my early days in Intel is... you must learn how to TALK!

If you have a good enough package (at least 3 months) it is better to leave. This is a good chance for you to step out of your comfort area, learn new things and obtain new skills. Your motivation will be high feeded by scare of job absence.

With all the proprietary stuff, it's not the wool makers that's going to have a hard time at interviews once they get the boot.

Keep suckling at the tit of mother intel while you can. I think soon the milk will go sour and then dry up completely as the cow dies. Prepare to find a new cow.

@IOQ - Did that feel good to feel Indian at-least while you were posting that message? I understand that with blobs of fat hanging down everywhere, irresistible temptation to down pork chops and booze and to get high on Denver special, It should feel worthless to be you. It is quite understandable. You can start by picking up the empty beer cans all over your trailer trash home even on which you owe a 6-fig mortgage and at-least two home equity loans.

High 5, me too. And i am Indian. Intel value me and treat me good. Every other 2 years i am promoted because i am a URM. I never get anything below Successful because my manager says its hard to justify to HR on the URM policy. I am glad i can continue leeching Intel, thanks to all the hardworking whites, jewish and chinese.

OP, it's not just you.. there are many many more EEs at my TMG who won't even be able to answer very basis technical questions on the process/step they are doing. It has become a routine work for me and I know what to do on daily basis. I am sure if I go out to an interview on the same type of work I will have hard time. Many of my colleagues mentioned the same.

As funny as you try to be, this unfortunately represents most of the management.
