Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why is Intel pushing People to take VSP so hard?

What advantage does Intel have to force people to leave voluntarily. They could just ISP them. But they act like they are doing you favors by giving good advice to take VSP but then they threaten you that if you dont take it will become ISP and you will get a lesser package.

@1stl - Exactly right! Don't take VSP! You are only helping BK by taking VSP.

@1stl, if cost Intel to do it, they will just save money by doing the minimum of payment, 6 weeks pay and 3 months Cobra

thats ~12k medical

and 15-23 weeks of extra pay.

That's a gambel if they kick all the VSP by June 3

They want you to take VSP because it saves them money from unemployment. Period. Why help BK?

but you wont have a track at work for next year.

And they didn't do that many ISPs

VSP with greater then 1.5 sigma i think would be targeted next.

Does ISP look bad when a prospective employer call Intel for proof of employment?

I will not take VSP unless I have another offer that is better than current job. I may not have to move at all if enough people got scared away. The longer I keep my job, the more I get paid, which may be more than make up the difference resulted from the smaller severance package intel threnren to give - which may not come true. Intel doesn't expect and doesn't need everyone to take VSP but want YOU to take it. The worst decision for ME is to take it right away.

In california there is a payroll tax for unemployment and the tax is graduated based upon how often your company is laying off people. It is probably similar for Oregon. The tax ranges from about 1.4% of salary to 5% for very cyclical industries such as fishing or maybe logging. The tax increases for high-layoff companies. If Intel lays off too many people the employment tax for the remaining employees will JUMP and they will be paying this increase for YEARS and so of course Intel would rather you take the VSP buyout than create a tax on all the salaries of all the remaining workers ...

The VSP is a scam - don't take it.

worth noting... the "threat" that the next package won't be as good has been heard before... and the next package was actually better I think. Granted that was a number of years ago. You have to look at the motivation for the package... It isn't kindness, it is public image. So the next package will probably be pretty close to the same.

That said... getting out early gets you a head start on looking for jobs. isp's are looking now, many vsp's aren't because they haven't decided if they will take it or not...

Guys, HR really f---ed this up. The way the packages we're designed (no one is taking it) and making the packages almost identical. Why would they do that? Did they not model a low yield scenario and consider what the implications and ramifications would be if no one accepted the offers? This seems like a big disaster brewing. They going to have cut big for project closures if they want their 12k. They managed to screw VSP and ER up and it's going to be messy if they covert VSP to ISP.

Managers don't know jack sh-- so stop kidding yourself. Everyone who spends time in this forum knows and has sent more leaked documents than your manager. Read the data and deduce from there. Come to your own logical conclusions.

There may be legal implications of giving people ISP vs VSP as it relates to H1B and less justification/double checking that anyone was discriminated against if it's "voluntary"

If Intel decides to make VSP an ISP; they won't do it partially as this might open them up to more lawsuits about why one VPS became ISP and another did not. So I am guessing if one VSP becomes an ISP; they all will. Guess we will have to until the end of June to find out.

How many VSP's did they give out this time.

The VSP package is very good. Future packages will not be. What my manager told me is that the next tier of performance issues is being offered VSP. This means they will get ISP if they don't take VSP IMO. Take it, its a good offer.

I heard they severely overestimated the number of people who will likely take the VSP. Rumor has it they projected 50%, but the historical average is 5%.

If that's true it's just another should-have-been-obvious blunder by MCM.

Makes me wonder what happens if you got selected for VSP and didn't take it, then later a project from your team gets cancelled and somehow you get impacted involuntarily. Will you then get a package lesser than the original VSP?

I was told that Intel does not dispute unemployment claims. So with a vsp you could still get unemployment. Also, did you recieve something in the mail if you got VSP.

I doubt VSP turns into ISP directly. However, I do believe HR will start working on a new SQL query that will scoop them up as well as others. Until they get 12k it won't stop.

VSP == no company part of unemployment insurance.

However, the letter sent out to the VSP recipients could, and should, be used to appeal the unemployment denial you will get when you file. Make the MFs pay.

You sign off legal rights to sue

Make it look like Intel is doing a favor in the eye of the public as opposed to looking heartless.

Possibly can claim no age discrimination since its voluntary.

There is no public record of vsp force to isp. It's all hearsay at this point although I believe it.
