Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Efficiency/Co-location cuts start next week. It is going to get ugly. Even "top performers" will be affected and need to scramble/move/get out.

"Efficiency/Co-location cuts start next week. It is going to get ugly. Even "top performers" will be affected and need to scramble/move/get out.".

Earlier messages mentioned the following VSP decision dates for last week's notifications: June 23, July 2 (real sense), sept 1 (android). Are these dates the departure dates (last day at the company) for impacted employees? Please provide additional information. I am trying to understand the package and the timeline for project specific/efficiency reductions.

Departure dates for RealSense VSPs : July 2nd, Android VSPs : Sept 1st.

Also Windows Client side will also get about 22% cuts starting next week.

Found out what a "buyback" is. HR is literally treating each individual as a stock! They are in a sell mode of all stocks that did not perform or over period of time failed to go up or provide dividends. During this mass selloff, mangers can bid for certain individuals and notify HR. HR will then do a hold or buyback. Exception if individul wants to short their stock...nothin can be done by HR or management.

@5lyx - Sorry to hear that, this company is going down fast. Just curious, what are the conditions/terms of this VSP? Same as previous VSP? What about timeframe?

Folks working on any portion of RealSense camera got VSP notifications today. All RS will go to PerC team who are the ones who delayed the HW in the first place. Interesting.

There is no redeployment pool. Managers have already saved their "critical" employees by moving them to DCG & IoT projects where they can retrieve them later if wanted. So all that is left are workers that they can live without. VSP pool can be easily expanded.

We used to call that redeployment

True. Efficiency is not VSP, but basically those folks are given an End date. If they can find a new position they can. If not they get same package as the VSP. Effort has been made for exceptional performers in cancelled projects/efficiency to find positions in other groups.

HR is deploying the "rolling thunder" strategy to do continuous VSP offerings in waves every week. They do not want to wait till the morning of June 3rd to see the results of their handy work. Previous stats show that VSP uptake is low and it is pretty safe to do the weekly waves to get the 12k, knowing that they will not exceed 12k or may even congratulate themselves for achieving a stretch goal exceeding the 1x goal towards their 2016 APB

Monday morning VP's will be given target headcount to manage to. This will trickle down to managers and they have to make the judgement call if they are over or under their target headcount and manage accordingly. They have till Q1 2017 to achieve their targets.

Intel HR is hiring to keep up with layoff planning and execution. All those interested are encourage to apply and don't forget HR is one of the few positions at Intel with the highest job security.

@1esq been hearing the same around the hallways. Developers is a group I heard would be impacted specifically. I suppose that may include several job codes and what I heard didn't get that specific.

Cutting (or expanding VSP) by job code makes sense. So the query would be job code crossed with some other criteria. I actually hope this is the approach the take vs converting current VSP to ISP.

If true managers will know maybe a day before, will have no choice and will have to make due with less headcount with same amount of work.

Remember "Set" some job codes got cut others didn't. The father of "Set" was Bain consulting. They are still around at Intel and still making recommended % cuts for certain job codes. Last time Marketing and managers took the largest hit. Some say SW, Architects, and PM will be hit this time. All hallway rumor though. So if this rumor is true "Set 2+" will begin soon. When that it is done then they will conclude with low span managers again. Don't worry about changing your current job code. They usually take a snap shot before announcing any areas for cuts, so it changing it now doesn't help.

Those that are in remote sites will get their notice of relo or isp on Tuesday. Was informed by Sr. Mgr on Friday. I am one of them.

Normally managers will not give out names easily. At this point in time managers are really vulnerable and worried. Unlike focal time where they get to play the stock distribution game, they are volunteering names to HR and can easily hide behind HR's skirts. With this list HR can compare and contrast the next round or even use it at the next focal.

I thought they will wait to see the number of ERP/VSP takers and then cut more to reach their efficiency target after June 2. Why are managers giving additional names now? Why do you think next week there will be more layoffs?

It is true in SSG. VSP pool in general is expanding to achieve target. The only issue with this strategy is that real good performers are getting worried that they will end up overloaded with tasks that others left behind. As soon as news about "efficiency" cuts leaked out, they have started to look outside Intel. Sad.

if all they are doing for now is expanding the VSP pool, they aren't exactly bringing the axe down yet

OP is correct. Our managers gave a list of who is "critical" and who is not to HR last Friday. If HR does not get thier 12K...then the non-critical list wil start getting VSP starting Tuesday 17th.
