Ask him/her to give you an immediate out of cycle Outstanding with promo. If the answer is no pack and go. He can not protect you regardless of his desire to

OP: if you've been with INTC 20+ years then you've been through this before and know that the layoffs are becoming an annual thing. Why prolong the agony, in your heart of hearts you know what the right thing to do is, it seems you are just not ready to accept it...no one on here can help you make that decision. I left Intel 3 years ago and have never been happier, though at the time I left it felt like a funeral. For those of you stressing about whether or not to take VSP I'm hear to say, LIFE AFTER INTEL IS AMAZING!!! Stop wasting your awesomeness working for the Borg, take the money and run!!! Go reinvent yourself! There's a whole world beyond those walls, release yourself from the golden handcuffs :)

I'm meeting with my 3rd level manager soon. Even if he suggests I dont take VSP, I beleive there is nothing he can do to make sure I dont get cornholed by an ISP before the next focal cycle.

If I stay because my managers want to keep me and then I get fired later this year by an algorithm designed to f*ck older employees, its going to feel like an incredible betrayal.

This current round of layoffs and follow-up threats just show how desperate and mindless this whole reduction is. The company is way bloated in so many ways and places and the management is clueless as to how to attack it.

Need an outsider to come in and do the right thing. Not VSP people out of areas that are over worked because of some algorithm.

@HmpCBgu-vjr: "Our Sr VP came to an open forum and said 'I don't make the rules. I just follow them.' "

If that's the prevailing attitude among senior staff, there's truly nothing to go back to...time to move on; intel clearly has...

May be you can ask them: What are the future career development opportunities if you decide to stay there? Do they have any plan for you to promote you for good work? I believe they'll all laugh at you.

Agree with below. Our Sr VP came to an open forum and said "I don't make the rules. I just follow them." Then there's Richard Taylor saying if we don't hit 12k with VSP/ERP we will have to go back to well to get more..but not offering any clues on criteria. It's really a gamble. But each situation is different. If you have portable skills and wouldn't mind the layoff later by all means stay. Otherwise use the time/money Intel is giving you to retool (which is what I'll be doing).

From all the posts it is quite clear that your manager and his manager and his manager are all totally out of the loop in terms of what happens next. Their words and assurances mean nothing.

Make your decision assuming they are helpless to help you.

Even if second level promises you EE or Outstanding, you may not get the opportunity to actually go through another focal cycle because HR WILL be choosing people to convert to ISP from that VSP list - and you could be one of those. It's as simple as that, so what he tells you/promises you makes absolutely no difference. All of his power has been removed.

At this point, you cannot trust anybody but yourself. If I were you, I would opt to take VSP because there are many more negatives associated with not accepting the VSP. I'll bet there have been no discussions with your mgmt about how you can get promotion or a plan to improve the SSL rating. Mgmt will not commit to any documented plans since they need the flexibility to lay you off later and cannot pigeon hole themselves via an agrred-to documented action plan with you.

The rest of us would like you to accept the VSP offer.

Obviously your career is stagnant. What can this person tell you about forward opportunities?
