Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Managers don't know anything and if they claim they do then they're lying

Managers don't know anything and if they claim they do then they're lying. We're all working with the same level of knowledge. The queries for ISP, VSP and ER are public. It's a query that's implemented and the HR level and your manager can't save you. They can only ensure you don't get SSL4 or 5 but other than that they can't do anything.

I am angry with my manager for giving me the SSL4 instead of the SSL2 I was expecting. Of course, I share responsibility for not being able to sell my deliverables despite talking about them on every 1:1. But the manage should have known what was going to happen to me.

My manager was ISPed. He made it clear that neither he nor any manager in our division anticipated this action. They all figured it would be next year before any potential layoffs or ISPs. So they were all blindsided.

That being said, any manager or employee who says he didn't anticipate a problem for giving or getting a level 4 is either lying or an idiot.

I'm an intel employee and my co-worker is convinced that our second level manager could have us fired if he wanted. We both had successful SSL 3 focals (we're grade 6) and we have the work we're producing on a daily basis. My thinking is, he would have to put us one of us on IR status before he could fire us and he can't put anyone on IR status unless we've done something wrong. A manager can't just unilaterally decide to get rid of someone - only HR can do that. The manager can only get you on your focal. I don't understand the hysteria with people worried about their managers. Can Someone explain this to me like I'm five? I don't get it why everyone is afraid of their manager.

The more time Ive had to ponder about the SSL rating BS makes me realize just how F'ed up the managers are. Keeping it a secret and abusing it power. Is everyone so base and soulless in this place? Mindless drones.

I know even in a 5 people group manger forced employees to take SSL4 that lead to layoffs, and manger said: I am sorry, I did not know that it would be taken as a criteria foe layoff.

@vel - this makes sense although I thought the group size would need to be larger before a forced distribution was necessary.

Actually the managers are forced to give out SL4/5 once their group size is high enough for a distribution, say over 8-9 people. So even the mangers cannot indirectly protect the employees through focal.

But what about the next round of layoffs? Round two is immanent because HR couldn't make their numbers with VSP and ER and even with project cuts we know they won't hit 12k, so round two (in the form of an ISP) is coming. What will the query look like? Logically, the would have to start culling from the e siting VSP list, right?

This is exactly right. At this point, we've all been reduced to a mere database query.

Focal is now very far away, with HR database query layoffs in our face. Managers can't help with that.

I would agree with you on that. Usually dictates from corporate are veiled for about 3-4 levels sometimes more than that. Everyone gets blindsided for the most part. Don't be too angry with the managers they are as much victims of the system as anyone else.
