DCG Fellow moved on - Time will tell if that was just bad timing to move on or an ISP or a VSP or something else. No name will be mentioned.

pre as in product dev engineering?
Single point failure that's doubtful. The manager would have had a business case to cancel the ISP. Trust me I have been throw downsizing as a manager. If he/she was let go it is not a valuable research position or there is redundancy or the technology is no longer going in the direction.
Engineers think everything they do is a single point failure. We are all replaceable and this is the lesson we are seeing now the hard way.
The true failure is that perhaps the management will not be able to inspire people to the next great thing. It's not about IQ or brain power at all. It's about INSPIRATION. The I in Intel use to mean that. The farther away a company gets from its founders the less it resembles the culture those founders established.
The culture in every corporation right now is PROFITS. We are all the market since we invest and don't really want our 401K's to shrink. We all indirectly or directly have enabled this system to be as it is now.
Yes- not only that but at least one researcher that was single point of failure for the company.
