Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I know on the surface that the employees dealing with the VSP are dealing with the great future uncertainty based on whatever decision is made.

Ask yourself the question, why have I not been promoted on the "avg schedule" as justified by HR? Also ask, why have I not received higher than ssl3 stock level for many years in a row? The momentum to improve these areas is simply not on your side. It may be because you are not valued, or you are not a yes man, etc.

Only you can figure out these reasons. So if you do not accept the VSP, you will be dealing with these uncertainties.

If you do accept the VSP, you will immediately enjoy a breath of fresh air and a little time to freely think how to proceed with your life and career. Of course, actually obtaining this goal is also an uncertainty.

50+HR/ week not enough I guess.

Maybe time to move on.

I though the devil known is better than the devil unknown but I don't think I know this devil as well as I think

Do you people actually believe that this will be the last of the layoffs at Intel? If you do, I have oceanfront property in Death Valley I would like to sell you. The Titanic hit the iceberg a few years ago and all they are doing is shuffling the furniture on the deck of it. Keep in mind that when it sank, it took the Captain and it's crew with it. So for those upper-management and VP's who think that they are untouchable, you are in for a suprise.

You are not speaking to all paygrades. Just had this discussion with my manager. As a non-exempt, I do not have a higher paygrade available to me at my current site: they have tried to promote people to 57 but it has been disapproved every time for years (other sites do, but still very limited): out of the 60ish SNEs in my group, there are four 57s, and they all transferred here as 57s. Also, non exempts only have 2 possibilities for stock: go (SSL3) or no-go (SSL5); and the same applies for lower grade exempts.

Even if managers were to rotate through handing out EE or O at focal to different employees every year (which isn't meritocracy) over a 4 year period, they're still limited to about 10% per year, so 40% in a rolling 4-year period. That means 60% have a "history" of being average performers.

What really stinks is Intel is touting this offer as a performance issue. That is either lying to the employees or lying to the shareholders. I, like most, have high expectations to meet every day. If I am not meeting those expectations, I will not be surprised at focal when I receive the cleverly worded "Below Expectation" rating. But now if I am meeting expectations, I'm not really meeting the hidden expectation of exceeding expectations.

I took this job because of the benefits it provided long term, and have stuck with it hoping to get to retirement (which is now less than a decade away). This is not the company I signed on to...

How about if you love your work and do your 60-80 hours, do a good job but at your maximum?

Say you like to run, you train hard, you are good with diet and sleep, but at somepoint you aren't going to make more progress and hit the limit. Intel basically says, sorry go find something else to do. I don't care you are good, you delivered and delivered for decades you are Outta here because management can't figure out what the right strategy is and hired too many.

Good management will cut bad / marginal folks as well as divisions that are over headcount or shouldn't exist. Trust me there are lots of those at Intel. But this VSP will gut some critical organization of good hard working people and leave those left understaffed while other organization that shouldn't be around or should be 1/2 the size will run around merrily with too many people.

Layotss like this are a sign the guys at the top are too weak or don't know what to really do. Just manage the larger balance sheet and hope things get better. BK will BK this company

Also if you accept VSP, you are still in uncertainty as the job market is pretty bad now with too many unemployed people in the queue.. Managers are encouraging ppl to take care; but he himself does not want to it now.. managers has more plans for his family and kids in next few years. If his EEs take that he will feel happy..
