Intel's biggest mistake is that they are so attached to their x86 they simply aren't willing to embrace what is cheaper.
All the glory goes to the x86 guys so 3rd string team is on everything else, guess what 3rd string team fails as doesn't have the best people, is 3rd fiddle and fails. Then ARM kicks A$$ from the bottrom.
The funniest thing ARM is doing to Intel what Intel x86 did to everyone else. Come in with something cheaper and make it up with volume to fund development and progress. Now ARM outsellss X86 and the foundries have huge volumes from Apple and Samsung and every other maker of phones to invest in silicon that now can beat intel.
Intel may make more money but they are now the IBM and minicomputers of yesterday.

Intel used to license their core too...and then Paul decided to sell Xscale!!
ARM licenses their cores to companies like TI, NXP, Qualcomm, and many many others that compete with Intel.
No. They sell IP. No factories.
