Hell yes! I don't wake up with a knot in my back from not sleeping right (or at all) while worrying about the status of the fleet of machines I was responsible for. I don't wake up with nausea thinking about explaining the same thing that I explained yesterday to smug, middle managers that think they know statistics and end up playing politics rather than addressing problems. (pssst.....you shouldn't be trying to draw conclusions from box plots of disparate data sets....herp-a-derps!....who hires ASU graduates?....holy sh-- they are dumb as stumps.) I don't get disgusted when the technicians I spent months training don't do any of the punch list items and their manager defends them consistently. Its a good thing I spent 2 hours writing up procedures that a 7 year old could understand and then end up doing the work myself.
I now wake up and come to a place where I get paid more than I did at Intel for far less work. The technical management chain that I report to says please and thank you.....words I NEVER heard from my GL, AM, MTL or any other level while at Intel. The work is focused and I'm allowed to solve problems on my own without it being prescribed by someone in Oregon (because they are the only ones that know how to do anything after all). There is no yelling, no backbiting, no agenda other than making money and solving problems.
So to my former Intel colleagues, I hope you're having a good day. I know I am. Just this morning I walked down the steps talking on my phone in one hand and holding my coffee in the other.....like a god damned adult. Oh look, its almost 5pm! Time to go home and enjoy my family and not think about work until tomorrow morning.
