Rank and yank at Intel and other companies

So it looks like what Intel is doing is called the General Electric vitality curve or otherwise known rank and yank. It looks like Microsoft and some others use to do it and stopped. Articles talk how it can be ok short term but not long term. The key question is if the ssl4/5 have forced percentages by upper management and if they will keep forcing the percentage long term.

BK is only as good as his last "respect and dignity" layoff.

MCM says employees are only as good as their last year of work.

Back when everybody was equal at Intel, that would have netted BK multiple IR's. But alas, the ivory tower was built in 2013, and the rest is history

MCM quotes

"You're only as good as your last year of work."

"There are a lot of people in the industry who would love to work here."

looks a lot like GE to me

The big question is whether BK will continue to fire 5-10% of the company per year or whether this is the last for a while... I wouldn't bet this is the last. BK is from the fab and learned that 'fear' is the only way to manage. All the old school Intel managers are that way, even though they hide it in the big public forums.

The culture at Intl really has never been good; however, it as just gotten worse. What a joke of a company!

Of course there are forced percentages. And if anything, it will only be more rigid in future.

And yeah it is funny that many companies that had been doing this finally realized that it doesn't lead to a positive culture.
