Schools are almost free for Americans and they still find excuses not to attend and work in Jack in the box for $7.50/hr and then blame others for their misery. Foreign students pay $300 to $500 a unit and graduate. So we need foreign students which keeps our economy going.

US colleges - even Tier 1 types - come salivating and begging in Asia, India, Middle East - because students from there pay 3X the tuition in 'YOUR' colleges. All these magnificent buildings for 'Institutes for Cognitive Learning' etc are built from that.... And if they pay, they will play in the job market - else the degree loses it's value and the Dean gets fired.

Go figure.

UT Austin is not in the same league when considering the quality of incoming graduate students. Sure, every graduate programs have their unique niches, and UT Austin is not a bad school, but it's not quite the same caliber as a MIT, Stanford, or Berkeley. Students who get into those schools would not choose UT Austin for their graduate studies. Having said that, an education is what you do with it, and some of the most successful people in this industry don't even have a degree.

I don't know about RPI but whomever suggested UT isn't in the same league is very misinformed. UT's Engineering school has been listed by several publications and accreditations in one of the top 10 in the country (and probably one of the best in the world) for like the last 15 years. They're doing stuff no one else is doing with guided laser MRI and advances in genome technology.

PHD'S dont have professional knowledge they are academic. There are so many PHDS that I have to train. They are clever only in books. I would prefer Masters from MIT or Berkeley over a PHD anytime.

Time for government to ensure Americans are given priority on being accepted to US universities.

Foreigners need to go to their country schools and stop taking american spots at OUR universities.
