When Lantiq was still part of Infineon, Ulm had both Wireline (Lantiq, bought by Intel in 2015) and Wireless aka Mobile (bought by Intel in 2011) business.
Ulm Wireless aka Mobile was announced to be closed in May 2015. Lantiq was bought later that year.
So Ulm is being shut down for a second year in a row. First Mobile, now Wireline.
Guys Ulm was not part of Lantiq. Ulm was bought by Intel from Infineon about 5 or 6 years earlier...
Getting rid of people is not such easy in Germany. The company is not in finacial trouble and courts will not accept the layoff unless a worker committed a crime or a violation of the CoC. So they close a site and offer relocation. The agenda behind is the hope that people prefer leaving. If this does not yield enough volonteers, the company presses their managers to start mobbing. They have to find a reason or risk their own job. This is not specific to any particular company.
Recommendation is:
never surf in internet with company computer
never do private things on your company laptop
always obey the agreed time of presence in office
never forget to log off, when you go to the restroom
write your personal documentation about observations on white paper
control your drawers/lockers, otherwise you may suddenly be confronted with compromising material that is found inside
...
The list is endless.
What else:
you may suddenly find out that you are not on Cc of important emails, this is explained by a "mistake"
2nd level managers directly contact ICs, thereby bypassing the 1st level manager
These things and many more are a first sign that you are on the black list..

Lantiq ulm: so that was an acquisition done in 2015 related to IoT market, and they fire the people in 2016 after announcing that IoT is one of the next big thing for Intel to focus on ??? I am lost.
@rhy rf_guy is just a troll... the kind of people who has to be ignored to keep this website useful (if possible).
@xuw what is your point ? I have nothing against people from Ulm. I made no comment about Ulm.
I was just (partially) answering @f---ing rf_guy
@apo please, explain this story to the 85 people in Ulm...
They need to close down sites and layoff people... it doesn't matter how small is the site...
There are less than 900 employees at Intel France. Sure, all the problem of the 112 000 Intel employees are due to these less than 900 employees: less than 1% ...
As an Intel stock holder I vote for the closure of Munich and French sites. These are two very expensive sites who have jointly costed Intel stock holders a total of at least $10 billion, generating zero revenue.
Clarification: Ulm is no cellular modem site, it's a Lantiq (wireline modem) site
Ulm is no modem site, it's a Lantiq wireline site
No news in France
Today at 12:00 (GMT+1) people in Sophia-Antipolis didn't know anything about site closure.
Has this been communicated later? will be communicated or is it just crappy info?
A Lawyer up is all that is left to do
what was the nature of work at ulm germany? was site part of modem?
@ttr Ulms site closire has been communicated to all employees in Germany as of today.
Auf Wiedersehen
How do you know Ulm will be closed?
