Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What is this 'Program efficiency' they keep talking about?

Accordingly to ACT hub, cuts come in 4 ways

  1. ISP

  2. VSP/ERP

  3. Site closure, Group Colocation, Project cancellations

  4. Program Efficiency

Wondering what might fit into #4. Sounds vague.

Of course it's BS but along with the BS they've been providing "criteria" for who gets laid off and what site gets closed. So the OP is asking, what is the criteria for project shut down/closure.

I believe they may use rfid to see how many hours spent in meetings vs actually engineering

Hypothetical example:

Widget A needs a complex driver to run. Currently it has 4-5 small teams spread out across geos working on various features.

They inform some of the groups that they must relo to the main site if they wish to continue working on the project. This is #3, group co-location.

They also inform one of the groups that the widget A driver is mature and doesn't need as many resources. They'll no longer be working on it, but it's not cancelled. This is #4. My guess is they'll try to absorb that team into something else locally where they'd fit, otherwise the entire team would be let go. I hear "let go" is basically the VSP, no redeployment, mandatory that you leave, but you'd be eligible for rehire.

"program efficiency" is CEO talk for laying off people. It's baseless BS, of course. Nothing more.
