Because China has so many workers, and labor is so cheap, companies can afford to spend the time and money to put a lot of labor intensive quality checks in place. The quality of the end product ends up being determined solely based on the corporation's decision. Volvo putting every car through a rigorous test off the assembly line is just insane. Imagine if GM or Ford in America tried to do the same thing paying UAW union wages, how expensive US made cars would be.

Well, if you own a Ford, chances are you are already driving a car with parts made in india.
And let's not forget if you have a Jaguar or Land Rover/Range Rover, those are owned by Tata.
And if you buy a new Volvo, that's owned by Geely, and the Volvos are the first Made in China cars to hit US soil. I'm told the new 2016 XC90 (which is made in china now), is actually a pretty good SUV.
