Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

On leave, why is Intel contacting me?

Got a FedEx envelope on Friday with an envelope inside containing a note talking about VSP. I've been on leave through all this and haven't been in contact with anyone and was under the impression that work wasn't allowed to contact me during my leave, and witn that in mind I don't have any work contacts (laptop still at work) so I haven't been informed of anything and technically can't be until my return. Is this illegal as per any current labor and employment laws?

I don't see why it's bad that they informed you early. I'd want to know right away instead of worrying about it while I was out (and possibly extending the MLOA due to stress). It sounds like it was just an FYI of a VSP, in which case I'd be grateful. They gave you extra time to think about it and maybe line something else up.

I don't see how any of that is bad for you.

I was shown the door last week while I was still on MLOA which ended only end of the week.

My personal and friendly advise to you, if you are on MLOA and you got a letter saying that you have an ISP, then go back as early as Monday and get it over with and get your package and your Money sooner than later so you can move on as there is nothing back for you there. When I say there is nothing for you there I mean it literately since you are done with the company and they don't want you anymore.

On the other hand, if you got a letter saying that you got offer a VSP, then chill out and jut milk the cow since you are still employed and once you come back from MLOA you will resume your job and salary until the time comes and it will so just be alert and ready.

Just be aware that if you got offer VSP and you do not take it most likely they will offer you ISP in the near future as you will be on their list but by that time hopefully you will be prepare and it will not be a surprise so just enjoy the ride while it last and try to get as much money as possible doing the least amount of work since it is not worth it .. good luck friend.

Absolutely legal. They need to tell you. Better off finding out now than later so you can prepare.

it does not matter as far as changing the outcome of the ISP,VSP,..etc whether they contact you or not and the fact that you are on MLOA will not stop them and if they are doing it is because they can and it is legal and they know how to do this sh-t and get away with it the legal way .

You have no legal claims if they are just sending you an "informational" letter as you are still an Intel employee . They are not contacting for a "work related" matter pertaining your actual job within your group but to actually letting you know that you are being affected by the corporate actions .

Most likely the day you return from your MLOA, that day they will meet with you if it is an ISP and you will be gone that same day after the meeting. Don't be surprise if the meeting is in one of the lobbies rooms and you get terminated from there after signing the papers. Just warning you so you are not surprised and at least get prepare emotionally as most of us did not have a chance to prepare and got walked out without even been able to go back to out desk to get our personal belongings as they will be packed and send in a box to your address by you manager.

I am not saying this to be mean and I am very sorry for your situation since I am/was in this boat last week but I just want to share with you what is going on and the way managent have decided to perform these actions which basically you are out with no options the moment they tell you have an ISP. Good luck and God Bless..

I got one too...not from an Intel address but a UPS-type mailing outlet...weird that a company would be doing that...still says "INTEL" on the FedEx envelope so whatever they're trying to get away with it won't work if they ID themselves...

Technically, I don't think they are suppose to contact you directly (meaning your direct manager/ HR)

I would've thought you would be protected under the benefits etc... When you are on a MLOA. It seems as though they're desperate to meet their 12000 layoff numbers. Inquire with HR Legal, only disability should be contacting you
