Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Time to milk Intel just like BK and Murthy

For those still at Intel, there is no point in killing yourself for BK and Murthy.

Do like me and tell your boss you are working from home but you are really out enjoying life or interviewing.

At the end you will be layoff so why bother.

Unfortunately I have started to observed productivity/attendance drop in the location I am in.

This is not surprising as the morale is very low and with no end in sight.

@ahp The OP is probably nothing short of a coaster, with little to no value to his team. While you worked late nights on some pressing issue he "worked" from home. While your neighbor loses her job he keeps his.

I understand the OPs frustration. The company teaches us that we need to be legal, ethical, and play fair. They proudly say no special privileges (reserved parking, we all fly coach, etc). They would like us to believe that we are all part of a big family and it is such a cool company that we should "live to work".

Eventually after years of working weekends and late nights to deliver something coolwe get tossed a new boss in some reorg we don't really understand. But, its cool, new boss, still get to work on technical stuff. We find she comes with her own crew of faves and suddenly out of the blue with no warning we get an SSL4, first one ever. We get told, you're just new, don't worry. Or maybe, it was just your turn. Maybe a little justification comes like work on your influence skills or HR said in 360 you were cross with someone. Superficial things that are not relevant to execution of the project or your engineering skills. We try to shrug it off because after all we are well paid and we get to work on cool stuff.

But all of a sudden we get a 1-1 and are greeted by HR with a security dude standing by just in case.

Maybe it isn't you walked out after the SSL4, Maybe your buddy in the next cube (if you still have one) You know she is very good because she's been there beside you at midnight on Saturday trying to debug/tape out/code or fill out company TPS reports. Maybe he fell sick, or she had a baby, or a divorce or death of a parent and wham, SSL4, no excuses, no humanity. The stunned look on their face is heartbreaking as they are escorted out.

We hear the execs say it was necessary for the survival of the company to cut costs. We watch the earnings call, everything is going well, strategy is working we made $2B in profit and beat the street. The lucky execs get handsome raises. The unlucky seem to be leaving in droves. The first year we thought yeah, maybe, times are tough. But then we see the headcount actually rises after we fired people. And we read about we can't find enough high tech people we need more H1B. We wonder, are the dudes we just walked out worse than the RCG/H1B that just came in that i am now training? Then the next year the story repeats on a grander scale. We start to realize, there but for the grace of God go I.

The OP is not alone in needing time to recover his faith in "live to work".

@jel Hard to take you seriously. I don't work weekends. I don't work on sh-- tasks. I can care less about BK, M, or any other execs. What I care about is my immediate job function, compensation and work / life balance, all of which are very good. You can have a solid career at Intel but there is a prerequisite: get your head out of your lazy ass

Why bother?? The answer is simple - self respect. How could you ever respect yourself if you weren't doing your best?

@dzs Intel needs more suckers like you to keep management employ, you will probably get ISP in the next round, but BK/Murhty thank you for all the hard work, make sure you work over the weekend also lol.

Lazy peers deserve an axe just like incompetent managers. Please do your team a favor and do what you were hired to do. If you don't like the job then find a different one, it's at-will employment after all.
