Been here 20-something years right out of grad school. Not old enough to retire and young enough to probably reinvent myself. I'm disillusioned with our leadership. But at the working level we have great engineers with bright minds. I think about taking the VSP but I worry I'll miss the top notch technical environment. Then sometimes I think it's Stockholm syndrome, from being here for so long. Thoughts?

It's definitely Stockholm syndrome alright! 1xzf has the right exit plan - take the money and run. Intel is so f**cked up right now it's crazy. If you are good you can find MUCH better places to work - better challenge, better money everything. There is nothing to salvage at Intel.

I'm in exact same boat as you OP.
Unless I hear something definitive that should be group get hammered I'll get another ISP offer, I'm taking the VSP and getting the f--- out.
If I pass, worst case, they walk me with like 2 months pay and that's it and I've lost myself significant money.
If I pass, best case, I hang on until April and get focaled out anyway. Meanwhile I'm stuck in the dysfunctional hell that is even worse with not enough people to do actual work, and more and more people trying to backstab anyone and everyone to ensure they aren't screwed next focal with SSL 4 or whatever the new BS they pull out to get rid of people.
The sooner I get out, the sooner I can move on with my life, and the sooner my stress levels can return to normal.
BK is gonna fire 5-10% of the workforce every single year. And they will be targeting expensive, white, and men as much as possible in order to hit their diversity numbers.

as much I hate to say it, some kind of re-structuring and house clean was definitely need it. working there can get quite boring at times.
You are delusional. Intel is nothing special. In fact working there was the least challenging, least interesting work I've ever done...paid fairly decent however...but still not the best.

Unfortunately, it looks like you are early to mid-forties, too young to retire, but you may have a good opportunity to use your experience to sell yourself and get into a new career. Large corporations are no longer the "lifer" institutions they used to be. Best to take your knowledge and experience and move on. There is lots of hope out there and you will turn the corner. As for as Intel, it was once a powerhouse, now it's just a rat infested dump.

After getting the boot last summer, and immediately landing a more rewarding, interesting and better paying job with a great work environment; my only regret about leaving Intel was WHY I DID NOT LEAVE SOONER.
Stress level dropped exponentially. Look forward to going to work now.
